A Night in the Medabot Junkyard is the 14th episode of Medabots Spirit.

Content[]

Summary[]

Recently, Sloan and Totalizer have been losing many Robattles. Feeling responsible, Totalizer leaves Sloan. Totalizer wanders around the city and ends up at a garbage dump for Medabots abandoned by their masters.

Plot[]

Sloan was losing too many Robattles, including one against Spyke, and even against Tak, who was a novice. When asking for advice from Ikki and Metabee, Ikki commented that there are several factors that could be making him lose, and comments that it could also be due to his Medabot.

Totalizer thinks that Sloan's losing streak may be his fault, which made him decide to leave the house at night so Sloan can get a better Medabot. Totalizer ends up in the junkyard, where he finds Fossilkat, an old Medabot that dislikes humans, and Totalizer regrets his decision. When Sloan discovers that Totalizer disappeared, he calls him with the Medawatch, and this angers Fossilkat, who ambushes Totalizer with some Tinpets and cuts the transmission, but Sloan got a glimpse of Totalizer location. Sloan calls Ikki to help search for him, explaining what happened and saying that it was his fault.

The two go see Nae to ask for her help. Sloan showed the last image he saw on his Medawatch, and after Nae searched on her computer, she found the location, taking them there with her van. In the junkyard, a bunch of Tinpets that have been abandoned ambush them. They are led by Fossilkat, who controlled all Tinpets like zombies, and she also got Totalizer under her control. This Fossilkat had been abandoned when her owner grew up, and now she hates humans, ordering all present to attack Ikki, Sloan, and Nae.

As Nae's van had a flat tire, they take cover inside the old building in the area. While inside, Ikki and Metabee say that they would be friends forever, and Ikki would never abandon Metabee like Fossilkat's Medafighter, and Sloan says the same about Totalizer, but Nae disagrees. Nae says that when Medafighters grow up, their feelings might change and they will be preoccupied with other things, and will eventually discard their Medabots, like Fossilkat and all the Tinpets outside. Ikki and Sloan disagree, and Nae can only hope that they are right, and that if they were to break up, it will be in a kinder way than Fossilkat.

Totalizer and the others manage to break in, and Metabee fights against the Tinpets while Sloan tries to talk with Totalizer. Luckily Sloan got through to Totalizer, and Totalizer helps Metabee by hitting Tinpets on his way, with Metabee managing to hit Fossilkat. Due to their connection, Totalizer gained access to Fossilkat's memory banks and he explained about Fossilkat's story.

After the battle, Nae takes Fossilkat and the Tinpets to her shop and fixes all of them, and they all are sold to get new Medafighters, which will love them as long as they can. Metabee wonders how long he and Ikki will stay together, and Ikki reassures him that they will always be friends, regardless of how old he gets, and they go have fun together while they are still young.

Trivia[]

  • While Fossilkat lacks the tear-like details under her eyes until Totalizer pushed her near a container that leaked and got into her face, she is seen with tears sooner in two scenes.

Medabots Spirit Tinpets repaired

The Tinpets after being repaired.

  • The sign in the beginning was cut. Its bigger texts are すてるべからず ("no throwing away"), 不法投棄禁止 ("illegal dumping prohibited") and ギンジョウ町 (Ginjou Town).
  • In the original, the electricity from the lightning reactivated Fossilkat, and she asked where her master was, being unknown how . In the dub, Fossilkat asks why she must awake day after day only to be forever alone, implying that she was only sleeping and the thunder's noise awakened her, and that she was active for a longer time.
  • The mention of Sloan losing to Spyke three times in a row was omitted.
  • The beginning of the close up of the スクリューズ ロボトル大決戦表 ("Screws Robattle Great Showdown List") was cut to hide the Japanese texts on the top, and the camera moves slower to compensate the change. It shows 8 matches, win Samantha having 5 wins, Spyke 6 wins, and Sloan losing all 8.
  • In the dub, Sloan makes excuses for his defeats, asking if Spyke cheated (which angers Spyke) or got a head start. In the original, Sloan is simply puzzled for why he was losing so many times, not knowing the reason.
  • Totalizer showing a recording of Krosserdog defeating him was cut.
  • In the original, Totalizer feels responsible for Sloan losing, saying it was his fault, and Sloan was about to say something before noticing Ikki and Tak. In the dub, Totalizer agrees with what Sloan said, saying that mixing up their moves will make them less predictable, which surprises Sloan, reacting to what Totalizer said before noting Ikki and Tak.
  • Part of Sloan's dialogue with Ikki and Tak was cut, and the coversation changed a bit.
  • After Tak leaves and Ikki talks with Sloan, in the dub Ikki says Sloan's attacks are weak and his strategies are not working, and notes that the problem could also be with his Medabot instead of Sloan, while in the original Ikki says that each Medabot has their own good and bad points, and that if Sloan wants to Robattle in a different way, he would need to change his Medabot. Both leave Totalizer sad, but for different reasons, in the dub being because he felt responsible for the losing streak as he thinks Sloan's attack plans are perfect, while in the original he thinks Sloan may be tired of him, believing that Sloan will want to replace him by a Medabot that better suits his fighting style.
  • An eyecatch was added after Totalizer leaves Sloan's house.
  • After Totalizer leaves Sloan, Totalizer and Sloan gained extra lines in the dub. For example, in the dub, Totalizer feels he was drawn to the junkyard, and wonders why the place he found could not be a feature or an amusement park, but feels he should not complain as beggars can't be choosers, and is startled by the sound made by Fossilkat, fearfully asking himself why he was going in the direction of the noise. In the original, all Totalizer says before meeting Fossilkat is that he was feeling like he was nothing more than a pile of trash.
  • The dialogue between Totalizer and Fossilkat changed a bit. In the original, Totalizer asked Fossikat why she was there, and she does not know, saying that she just awoke there one day, and no matter how much she called for her master, she did not answer her.
  • The "off line" screen in Sloan's Medawatch was cut.
  • The result of Nae's computer search was cut. It showed the text 再開発地区さいかいはつちく ("redevelopment district").
  • In the dub, the building near the location Totalizer was last seen is said to be a Medabot training facility that for some reason was closed down before it was even used. In the original, the area was lively in the past, but now is closed down and there aren't many people living there, being like a ghost town, and while there is no mention of what the abandoned building is, it becomes clear that it is a church when the interior is shown.
  • Ikki seeing the sign shown in the beginning was cut.
  • Most of Totalizer's attacks while under Fossilkat's control were cut, only being seen attacking a few times in the dub.
  • When Fossilkat appears before Ikki, Nae, and Sloan, in the original, Ikki recognizes Fossilkat, and Nae comments that she is an old model and wonders where is her master, and Metabee looks around to find the master, but Fossilkat says that she has no master, and Totalizer attacks again, hitting Metabee. In the dub, Ikki does not recognize Fossilkat, despite fighting against another Fossilkat before in the Medabots anime. While it could be due to this Fossilkat being dirty and covered in a rag, Nae explains to Ikki that is an old Medabot model called Fossilkat, and she comments that she had not seen one in years. Afterwards Metabee suddenly jokes: "let me guess, the kid didn't like her", and Fossilkat says that she and the Tinpets were all abandoned.
  • The part Nae explains about Fossilkat's head part having the Bug attack being what may be allowing her to control Totalizer was reduced, with Nae only saying that Totalizer was under Fossilkat's spell.
    • This is also what allows Fossilkat to control the old Tinpets without Medals nor Medafighters like puppets.
  • A small scene with Nae was cut.
  • An eyecatch was added after Totalizer managed to enter the building.
  • Most scenes with Totalizer pointing his arm to Sloan and firing were cut.
  • Totalizer's talk about Fossilkat's past changed:
    • In the dub, Totalizer explained to Metabee and the others that Fossilkat did not really hate humans, she was trying to keep all Medabots from suffering the same fate as her by calling them to join her, and Fossilkat's Medafighter never forgot her, but after she married, Fossilkat did not like the idea of sharing her best friend with someone else, and angrily left. Fossilkat did not expect that her Medafighter would miss her for the rest of her life, and she lamments that she ran away, apologizing for everything she did.
    • In the original, Totalizer showed Fossilkat's memories to her, commenting that she really loved her master. However, when a Medafighter grows up and stops participating in Robattles, then the Medabot's mission is concluded, having no reason to continue with their Medafighter. It simply cannot be helped. Totalizer says that if Fossilkat had erased her memories with her master on her own, she would not have suffered. Fossilkat sadly asks why she had awakened, because if she had not woken up, she would not be feeling the way she was, lamenting that her memory will be erased and then put to sleep forever.
  • In the dub, Nae says that being without a Medafighter for so long must have corrupted Fossilkat's programming, but her attitude toward humans changed now that she was repaired. In the original, Nae says that even at Medabot recycling plants occasionally there were Medabots sent with Medals attached, and believes she was thrown there by mistake.
  • The Tinpets holding a poster with the text 新しいマスターを探しています ("looking for a new master") was cut.
  • In the dub, the episode ends with Ikki calling Metabee to go eat something, and Metabee says he wants lube oil shakes. In the original, Ikki only calls Metabee to do something together without specifying what.
