Summary[]
Overconfident with their #3 national Robattle ranking and overuse of the Medaforce, Ikki and Metabee get back to basics when faced with a new foe.
Plot[]
Mr. Referee is announcing the preliminary national Robattle Rankings for all of Japan, as determined by the World Medabot Federation. The results were determined by tabulating all official Robattles that took place since the last tournament. He reminds that those are the preliminary results, and that after two months the final top 3 will represent Japan in the World Robattle Championships.
Ikki is discussing the "Medaforce" with Dr. Aki at Henry's convenience store, with Aki staying there for some time due to what happened with his house. Metabee thinks that his Medal changing is proof that it is a Rare Medal, but Henry informs him that all Medals change when they gain enough skill. They are interrupted by a very excited Erika, who tells Ikki that he is 3rd place in Japan's Medafighter Rankings. Koji is ranked 2nd, and an unknown Medafighter by the name of Space Medafighter X was ranked #1. Ikki can't believe it, but Metabee (becoming cocky) believes he should be #1.
When Ikki arrives home that afternoon, he finds his mother surrounded by reporters. Seems everyone wants to know about the boy ranked 3rd in Japan. Samantha sees this and claims to be Ikki's instructor. This annoys Ikki and the two of them argue. Chidori intervenes saying they should settle their differences with a Robattle.
The Robattle is a disaster. Ikki and Metabee relied on the Medaforce, but realized too late that they don't know how to summon it. Metabee is hit with Peppercat's lightning jump and shock attacks until... function ceased. Metabee was easily defeated in front of several reporters, and Ikki feels humiliated. After defeating Metabee, Samantha tries to gain points by Robattling Cyandog over and over again. However, after 30 consecutive Robattles, Mr. Referee appeared and informs her that to prevent cheating Medafighters will only receive points for winning their first official Robattle with an unfamiliar opponent, and to earn more points she'll have to fight someone else, her Robattles with Spyke and the one with Ikki earlier not counting. In that case, Samantha sets out to find someone new to battle. Unfortunately, she runs into Mr. Dragon with his dragon-type Medabot Spitfire, and they easily destroy Peppercat.
Mr. Dragon is another contender for the Robattle finals and really wants to challenge Ikki to a Robattle. He confronts Ikki by the shores of the river, and an official Robattle is declared. Spitfire is fast and surrounds Metabee with small metal mines that send a powerful blast. Ikki knows he cannot depend on the Medaforce and must use his courage and mind power. Realizing Metabee's Scope Legs (which he was using due to losing his legs to Samantha) are waterproof, he tells Metabee to jump in the water. When Spitfire looks to the water, he is blasted with a surprise seeker missile. However, Spitfire has the ability to regenerate, allowing his Medaparts to heal instantly. Metabee could not keep Spitfire down. Suddenly, Ikki notices Spitfire's eyes glowing, which could only mean his regeneration capabilities were located in his head. Metabee gives Spitfire a crushing blow to the head... function ceased. Metabee wins. A defeated Mr. Dragon tells Ikki not to celebrate too soon as every contender will want to challenge him to a Robattle. Will Ikki remain 3rd in the standings until the championships? We'll just have to wait and see!

Background[]
English dub changes[]

Erika is overjoyed with her scoop.

Ikki and Metabee ranking screen 1.

Koji and Sumilidon ranking screen.
- Erika crying with joy and Henry complaining of what she said was cut, and the original Medal transition was replaced by a borderless Medal transition. In the original, when Erika arrives to give urgent news to Ikki, she tells him that "now is not the time to be in such a place", and cries due to getting her biggest scoop since she started being a reporter in the school, and Henry does not like that she called the store "such a place".
- The National Robottle Ranking screens Erika shows to Ikki were modified, becoming Medafighter Rankings that have different details. The original also showed a screen from Ikki that was similar to the Space Medafighter X's screen.
- Ikki and Henry screaming was cut. They were both shocked when they saw Ikki was third place in the ranking.
- The part Ikki asks Metabee to pinch him was reduced. In the original, after the pinch, Ikki asks Metabee to be stronger, and he complies, and when Ikki asks him to be stronger again, he shoots Ikki several times. Ikki then slowly falls on the ground, saying that it hurts and that it is not a dream. In the dub, Ikki appears near the end of the fall after the first pinch, and says that he is not dreaming sooner.
- The Medal transition after the scene with Koji was replaced by a fadeout.
- Samantha throwing Spyke on Ikki and Samantha screaming with Ikki were shortened.
- Samantha screaming with Ikki before their match was cut.
- Two of Samantha's more extreme expressions (big bright eyes for winning and screaming with Spyke) after her victory were cut.
- Ikki appalled after his loss was cut. A fadeout was added in this part in the dub.
- Ikki and Metabee petrified was shortened. In the original, when Metabee asks what should they do if the Medaforce does not return, Dr. Aki basically tells Ikki and Metabee that "if that happens, then it happened", and while they are petrified, the narrator explains that what Dr. Aki said is something that is usually said by irresponsible adults. In the dub, Dr. Aki says "Well, then you really got a problem."
- Spyke crumbling into pieces was cut, and Sloan shedding a tear for him was shortened. In the dub Sloan appears to be lamenting what happened with Samantha instead of Spyke.
- A fadeout was added after Mr. Dragon challenges Ikki for a Robattle.
- Mr. Dragon's mention that he is #18 in the national Robattle ranking was omitted in the dub.
- When Erika says "Alright!" after Metabee used his missiles on Spitfire, she closed her mouth afterwards in the dub, and kept her mouth open in the original.
- A scene with Mr. Dragon using his nunchaku was repeated in the dub.
- The scene where Spitfire is on fire was shortened. In the original, the narrator explains that Metabee's shots were faster than Spitfire's regeneration speed due to his will to win. In the dub, Metabee says that Spitfire is recovering faster than he can fire.
