Summary[]

After losing the Robattle tournament, Ikki must rescue Metabee's Medal from the Rubberobo Gang and battle Koji in a re-match.[1]

Plot[]

In the last episode, Metabee has lost to Sumilidon. Koji is disgusted with Ikki, saying he defeated himself with his incompetence, and doesn't consider himself the winner. He wants a rematch and gives Ikki 24 hours to get ready and also tells Ikki where to meet him (the temple). Then, suddenly the sky turns gloomy and begins to rain. Karin and Erika try to convince Ikki to get out of the rain until he finally gathers himself and suddenly realizes that Metabee's Medal is missing and quickly begins searching for it with the others. Ikki did not notice that Squidguts of the Rubberobo Gang (who were posing as noodle vendors) had found Metabee's medal earlier while gathering the coins he dropped and bolted away with it. That evening, Ikki repairs and polishes Metabee's body while reminiscing of their relationship (as well as realizing that Metabee's stubbornness and defiance is due to his ineptitude as a Medafighter).

Meanwhile, Squidguts had placed Metabee's Kabuto Medal in his Medawatch which resulted with an angry Metabee shouting at him. Not wanting to stay on a Medawatch, Metabee asks for a body; Squidguts quickly placed the Medal in a Rubberobo Gang's Medabot, Agadama. Metabee is livid for having a body, but the Rubberobo Gang refuses to let him go and quickly lie to Metabee by telling him that Ikki threw his Medal away and does not want to deal with the stubborn Medabot anymore. This convinces Metabee to join their side...the side of evil.

The next day, Ikki and Erika decide to skip school in order to find Metabee. Ikki (not listening to Erika's doubts) gets his dog, Salty, to track Metabee. Salty leads them to Karin, who was searching for the lost Medal all night long near the arena. Afterward, they come across the Rubberobo Gang's secret hideout, but were discovered and captured (with Salty locked outside). Also with them is the Screws, who were also captured. The Rubberobo Gang then instruct Metabee to get rid of the intruders, but Metabee refuses after Ikki is finally able to explain that the Tinpet was only so he could give him a tuneup, and betting on him was all Spyke's idea (who just says he should have bet on Sumilidon instead). Just as the Rubberobo Gang begins to descend upon them; the Phantom Renegade suddenly appears by ramming a section of the hideout with a forklift, and also brings Salty back to Ikki. They are released and Metabee returns to his body, and they dash off to meet Koji for his rematch while the Phantom Renegade and the Screws deal with the Rubberobo Gang, with the Phantom taking a bag full of Medals from the Rubberobo Gang.

Koji is waiting for them at the temple when they arrive. It's quite a battle. Both Metabee and Sumilidon have both arms disabled. If Metabee fires his missiles, Sumilidon can disrupt them and damage Metabee. Will Koji win based on points? Nope, Ikki has a plan. Metabee uses his seeker missile, but turns and allows enough distance. Sumilidon is then forced to engage his disrupter. The blast sends Metabee bombarding into Sumilidon. It works, and Sumilidon's Kuwagata Medal is dislodged. Koji is shocked that he is beaten. Koji is a very good sport and shakes Ikki's hand. Just then Henry comes up. He needs the Tinpet that he lent Ikki, intact as it belongs to the shop and any damage would be discounted from his salary. Seeing trouble, Ikki and Metabee run away, as Metabee had damaged the Tinpet...

Trivia[]

Anime Medals episode 11

The Medals taken by the Phantom Renegade.

  • One of the Medals taken by the Phantom Renegade appears to be a Ghost Medal.
  • This episode has two animation errors:
    • The blades on Sumilidon's right arm were broken during the Robattle, but they are present on the arm when he activated the effect from his head part.
    • After the Robattle, when Erika turns her head to see Koji approaching Ikki to shake his hand, her head is not aligned with her body.

In the episode[]

Background[]

English dub changes[]

Anime double pain

Ikki crying, not due to the cut, but due to Metabee's disappearance.

Anime Smilodonod Medarotch

Koji's Medawatch.

  • The dub included a recap of the previous episode.
  • The Medarot texts in the arena was changed to Medabot.
  • The scene with Ikki going to Metabee was reduced.
  • Koji slapping Ikki with enough strength to drop him on the floor was cut. In the dub Ikki is standing in one scene and on the floor in the next without explanation.
  • Ikki's return to his home was shortened, cutting Salty watching the rain and Chidori drying his hair.
  • Ikki putting his mouth on his injury and crying was cut.
  • A fadeout was added in the view of Ikki's house at night. This scene was also reduced, and the view of the night sky was cut. Also, in the original the narrator says the men should not cry, being only allowed to do so when they lose a parent or when they hit a toe on a shelf, comparing the latter with the pain Ikki was feeling after losing Metabee.
  • The Medarot text in Squidguts's, Ikki's, and Samantha's Medawatches were removed.
  • The close to Gillgirl's drill was removed.
  • The chick seller's cigar was replaced by a toothpick.
  • The chick seller's conversation was changed and reduced, including a scene where he yells with Ikki.
  • The duration of Chidori's conversation with the Principal was reduced a bit, and also had some changes. In the original Chidori only mentioned that Ikki could not go because he needed to do something important, risking to lose a friendship if he didn't, and the Principal ponders with Samurai how the students in his school are special. In the English dub Chidori told that Ikki was going to search for his missing Medabot, and the Principal tells Samurai that most principals would not find that admissible, but he is a very cool Principal.
  • A scene with Ikki and Karin was cut, and the original's Medal transition was replaced by a new one without outlines.
  • A fadeout was added were the commercial break was in the original.
  • One scene with Ikki, Erika, and Karin when they are tied was cut.
  • The two scenes with Samantha kicking Spyke were cut.
  • The scene with Ikki crying while tied was cut.
  • A scene with Seaslug was shortened, cutting the part he is crying.
  • When the Screws transport their Medabots, a previous scene with Squidguts panicking is repeated, following by a fadeout.
  • The scene with Noctobat's missiles was shortened to cut Spyke and Cyandog running from them.
  • Like previous episodes, the texts in Ikki's Medawatch are different despite already being in English.
  • The part Sumilidon's Medawatch status appears in the original was removed, being moved to when his Flexor Sword is broken and modified: The parts Flexer Sword, Straw Hammer, and Sharp Edge changed to Sharp Edge, Shadow Sword and Hammer. Except for the font, Hunter was not changed. The three texts in the bottom were replaced by "Warning". His Japanese name, Smilodonod, was replaced by Sumilidon in a black rectangle with a white font. As it is placed sooner, the image was editted to show his right arm going offline instead of the left arm, with the left arm remaining active.
  • A Robattle Stats was added in the end of the episode ("METABEE Loses to SUMILIDON but wins in a Rematch"). The original lacked a "parts obtained" in the end.

Quotes[]

Chick seller: "You sure there isn't something I can help you find?" (...) "Let me guess, a chick! Well my boy, you came to the right place. I have got a chicks galore." (...)
Ikki: "No, I don't want any chicks."
Chick seller: "Then what do you want from me, huh? ... Sorry, didn't mean to yell. It's just they opened this big pet store down the street, they're selling these parrots you can teach to talk. How can I compete with that? If there's something you're looking for, go get it. If it's at a pet store, I'll understand."

A rough translation of the same dialogue in the Japanese version:

Chick seller: "Let's suppose that you went to space, what would you bring along?" (...) "Just choose anything."
Ikki: "Hmm... A friend?"
Chick seller: "No! Oxygen, of course! Without oxygen, you'll die! Also food and water!" (...) "Idiot. No matter what you want, you need to achieve it yourself. If you forget the value of what you have, you'll only come to understand its value after you lose it. Go get it. It doesn't matter if others laugh of you or if they think you're a fool, it's better than nothing."
