Plot[]

The World Robattle Cup is finally down to the best eight teams, and the quarterfinal pairings have been announced: Japan vs. Egypt, U.S.A. vs. Czech, Kenya vs. Canada, and Iceland vs. England. Patra, Egypt's representative, claims that Team Japan has a serious weakness and that they have no chance of winning against her.

Team Japan thinks their weakness may be the current Space Medafighter X, Spyke, Japan's weakest Medafighter in the rankings, who was choosen in a hurry due to the Phantom Renegade being busy evading the authorities. Koji tries to train Spyke and Krosserdog to improve his skills, without success.

Feeling down, Spyke leaves the training and witness Team Egypt's training. When Ikki and Rintaro where looking for Spyke, they end up being spotted by Team Egypt, and Rintaro challenges Patra for a Robattle. After the match, Patra talks a bit about the Ten Days of Darkness, and tells Ikki that he will have to win their Robattle in the tournament if he wishes to know more about it. Ikki asks Henry about it, but he evades the question.

During their match, Koji argues with Space Medafighter X for being Team Japan's weakness, but Patra reveals that Koji is their weakness, as he always uses the same strategies and is predictable, while Space Medafighter X always changes his Medabots and Ikki's Metabee has the Medaforce. Sumilidon is unable to land a hit, even with the Shadow Sword, and this is a heavy blow on Koji's pride. While Koji is shaken, Team Egypt's T-Mummies prepare to finish Sumilidon, but Krosserdog takes the hit and brings down the T-Mummies with him. With only Patra's Cleobattler left, Metabee finishes her with the Medaforce. After the match, Ikki asks Patra to tell him about the Ten Days of Darkness. Joe appears and does it for her, informing that Hikaru and his KBT type Medabot named Metabee started it, being identical to Ikki's Medabot.

Trivia[]

  • A small animation error: When Space Medafighter X talked during the press conference and the Medafighters on the table looked around, the microphone between Ikki and Metabee disappeared.
  • In Japanese, a dog's bark is pronounced as "wan" (ワン) instead of "woof". "Wan" is also the English pronunciation of the number one, with Krosserdog mistaking Salty's bark with the number during the training.
  • The parts Cleobattler changed into are from Robo-Emperor, Sumilidon, and Metabee.

In the episode[]

  • Team Japan won their match against Team Egypt, and Ikki won T-Mummy's head.

Background[]

English dub changes[]

Anime apple bunny slice

One of the apple bunny slices done by Sumilidon during the training.

  • In the original, the Phantom Renegade first tried to call Sloan and then Samantha before ending up choosing Spyke. In the dub, he first tried to call Spyke and then Sloan before choosing Spyke.
  • A 3D Medal transition was added in the place of the episode's original title.
  • The appearances of the "World Robotol Cup" logo were changed to the "World Robattle Cup" logo.
  • The part the reporters suddenly advance to take photos was cut.
  • The texts in the brackets were translated, such as 優勝 (yūshō) being translated as "World Cup Champion".
  • The duration of Spyke's "X" pose was shortened a bit.
Anime Krosserdog view

Krosserdog aiming the apple on Spyke's head.

  • Rintaro's explanation about Patra changed a bit:
    • Japanese version: "She's also known as the Queen of the Desert, who won second place in the World Championship eight years ago. A beautiful girl Medarotter who defeated competitors from all over the world one after another at the age of 12. She was called a genius Medarotter along with Japan's Hikaru Agata and America's Joe Suihan."
    • English version: "The Queen of the Desert! She was with the traveling exhibition team called the Magnificent Medafighters! She was unstoppable! She won match after match! This is the same team that the legendary Hikaru Agata was on too. But no one has heard from him for eight years. I heard the whole team broke up after the forgotten Robattle."
  • The duration of the scenes with the Phantom Renegade running from the Select Corps were shortened, and instead of the narrator, the explanation is done by Henry.
  • A fadeout was added before Team Japan's training.
  • The part Team Japan trains with apples on their heads was cut, likely due to being dangerous and lacking any "don't try this at home" warnings. This is a training method to build the trust between Medabot and Medafighter, with Metabee accurately shooting an apple on Ikki's head, and Sumilidon doing precise cuts on the apple on Koji's head, making apple bunnies (usagi ringo) slices. But when it was Krosserdog's turn, he lacked confidence, being afraid of hurting Spyke, and turned his arm away when he fired, accidentally shooting Sumilidon's head again, further angering Koji. Following parts where Spyke appears with an apple on his head were also cut, and the dialogue was adjusted, with Koji grabbing Spyke after the first time Sumilidon was hit.
  • The scenes introducing Team Egypt's Medabots were moved to before the match against Team Japan, being followed by stats screens.
Anime Kantaros Medarotch

Rintaro's Medawatch.

Anime World Robattle Cup eight years ago

The recording of the World Robattle Cup from eight years ago.

  • In Rintaro's Medawatch, the texts Kantaros, Missile-Kai, Revolver-Kai, Sub Machine-Gun-Kai and Ochitsuker-Kai were respectively changed to Kantaroth, Missles (sic), Left Arm, Right Arm, and Main Servo. The lower texts "extremities destruction", "functional disorder" and "combat inoperable" were replaced by "100% damage function ceased".
  • The eyecatches were replaced by a 3D Medal transition.
  • In the video tape, the text 提供メダロット社 ("brought to you by the Medarot Company") was replaced by the Medabots anime logo, and the WRC logo behind it was removed. The 趣味の園芸 ("Hobby Gardening") program shown afterwards was translated as "Mr. Garden".
  • Mr. Garden is a normal gardening program in the original. To add humor, in the dub Mr. Garden's lesson is how to teach a carrot to speak Spanish, and the movement from Mr. Garden's head was editted to make him move his mouth more times, with his head shaking a little. He ends saying that in the next episode he will introduce Wiggles the dancing rutabaga. A fadeout was added afterwards.
  • The view of the arena with the announcer talking before the match was moved from before Spyke being on the phone to after Patra talked with Joe, and the dialogue changed a bit.
  • In the dub, Patra and Joe say that Henry is Hikaru Agata's nickname.
  • A view of the arena during Mr. Referee's speech had its position changed, and his dialogue also changed, with Mr. Referee saying that the match will start in one minute.
  • Part of an upcoming scene with Team Egypt was added before the introduction of their Medabots.
  • A fadeout was added after Samantha and Sloan talked about Spyke's mistake, and a view of the Medadome was added afterwards.
  • The part Koji is shaking due to being angry was reduced a bit.
  • In Koji's Medawatch, except for Hunter, the texts Smilodonod, Flexer Sword, Straw Hammer and Sharp Edge were respectively changed to Sumilidon, Sharp Edge, Flexor Sword and Hammer. The lower texts "Sharp Edge damaged 60 pt" and "danger!" were changed to "left leg 30% damage".
  • A brief view of Ali and Hassan before the antlion formation was cut.
  • The ending was extended a bit to give time for the narrator's closure.
  • The Robattle Stats does not mention that Ikki won T-Mummy's head part in the English dub.
