Gryphon-Doom is the thirty-seventh episode of Medabots Spirit. It first aired in COUNTRY on BROADCASTER on DATE.

Content[]

Summary[]

The strongest Kilobot, Gryphon, had the problem of becoming uncontrollable and going wild. Blakbeetle feared that she could no longer be herself if she is combined with Gryphon. With Eddie's help, she escaped from Kam.

Plot[]

The strongest Kilobot, Gryphon, is almost complete. Extreme Tech runs a test with Blakbeetle's Neo Ex Medal, with Gryphon fighting against several Unitrixes, but Gryphon goes out of control and almost escapes from the test room. The researchers discover that the amount of input from Gryphon's system is too much for any Medal, including Blakbeetle's, who has the strongest Medal. Kam is not pleased with this and says that another test will be held tomorrow, saying that Blakbeetle only needs to learn how to deal with the amount of input. The experience left Blakbeetle shivering.

Blakbeetle does not want to become Gryphon again, and Kam asks why, as she will become the strongest Kilobot. Blakbeetle explains that, while as Gryphon, she cannot concentrate, feeling like she is losing herself, prefering to remain as Blakbeetle to avoid it. Kam is intriged by this, but says that it does not matter, as he is her master and she must do what he wants.

During their argument, Eddie informs Kam that the home's generator will be shut down for 30 minutes for maintenance, so all electricity will be off. When Kam is not looking, Eddie hints Blakbeetle that while the electricity is down, a Kilobot could easily run away without being noticed, which Blakbeetle does.

In the next day, Dr. Maizu informs Zuru that he needs to destroy Blakbeetle's Medal, of else they will be doomed. Zuru asks why, and Dr. Maizu says that Blakbeetle's Medal is the only one capable of supporting Gryphon's input, but if she cannot handle it, she will overload and go out of control, and with such a strong body, she will become unstoppable.

Meanwhile, Ikki and Metabee are in a Robattle against Ginkai and Arc-Dash, and the Rogue Medafighters Suzie, Minitora and Kintora are using their Medanetboards to pursue Blakbeetle, finding her thanks to the transmitter Kam installed on her, with Kam believing that it is only a matter of time before she is captured. Eddie notes that Blakbeetle really does not want to become Gryphon, and Kam says that she has no choice, and to ensure that, once he places Blakbeetle's Medal on Gryphon, he will destroy her original body.

Ginkai lost three straight matches, and as he made a bet, he had to purchase eight pocket pizzas for Ikki. Metabee complains that he got nothing despite doing all the work, and Ikki tells Metabee that he will later buy something for him with his lunch money. While leaving the food shop, they notice Blakbeetle running away from the Rogue Medafighters. They ask Suzie what is going on, but Suzie tells them to leave as it was none of their business. Wondering what is going on, they decide to follow the Rogue Medafighters, finding them attacking Blakbeetle while she is not even fighting back. Metabee and Arc-Dash defeat Unitrix and Ambiguous 2 to protect Blakbeetle, and the Rogue Medafighters say that Blakbeetle must be malfunctioning as she ran away. Ikki says that is not a malfunction, but a choice, but they refuse to listen and try to fight them, but their Kilobots were already defeated. As Kintora and Exor alone would not stand a chance against them, they decide to run away.

Before Ikki and Ginkai can ask Blakbeetle what is going on, Zuru appears saying that he needs to destroy Blakbeetle's Medal. Roks follows Zuru's orders, but as Metabee takes a hit to protect Blakbeetle and admonishes Roks's actions, asking if he had not changed, Roks regrets his actions and apologizes to Zuru, saying that he cannot destroy Blakbeetle's Medal.

While Kam is following Blakbeetle's signal, he receives a call from Henry McKenna, who is not pleased with Gryphon. McKenna believes that Gryphon is too powerful to be turned into a profitable product, as it would be too expensive for anyone to buy, suggesting to bring the prototype back to reduce its performance and make it more profitable. Kam cuts the call, saying that he still has plans for the Gryphon project.

Ikki, Ginkai, Zuru, their Medabots, and Blakbeetle reunite in Nae's shop, where Nae repairs Metabee and Zuru explains what is happening. Zuru starts from the beginning, saying that his father, Dr. Maizu, worked with Dr. Aki in the Medabot Corporation. However, Dr. Maizu disagreed with Dr. Aki in many things, and left the company, taking several Medals and plans with him. One of the Medals he took ended up with Ginkai, becoming Arc-Dash. Nae remembers that Dr. Maizu was a good man, but when Extreme Tech hired him, all his designs were bent towards destruction. For a while, Dr. Maizu has been working on a top secret Kilobot design called Gryphon, the ultimate Kilobot. Gryphon is so powerful that only Blakbeetle's Neo Ex Medal is able to handle the amount of input. However, Dr. Maizu fears that even Blakbeetle would be unable to handle the input, and Blakbeetle agrees, being the reason she ran away. If Blakbeetle snaps and goes out of control while she is Gryphon, she may go on a rampage, similar to the one done by Redrun, but much worse, and with no way to stop it.

As destroying Blakbeetle's Medal is not a good choice, everyone discusses what they should do to prevent Kam from recovering Blakbeetle. Roks suggesting placing her Medal in another body so Kam cannot find her, but they do not have a body able to handle her Kilobot Medal. Arc-Dash suggests that Blakbeetle should leave the city, but Roks asks how she will live without a master, as that is impossible. Kam then appears with Gryphon, saying that Blakbeetle has a master, and he wants Blakbeetle's Medal for Gryphon. When they are about to Robattle, Blakbeetle stops them by saying she will return to Kam and do as he wishes, as a Kilobot cannot live without a master, being better to take a chance and risk becoming a monster, than have nothing. After Kam and Blakbeetle leave, everyone wonders what they should do, and they need to hurry, as time is running out.

  • Several lines changed in this episode, but only major changes are detailed below. For example, when Ikki and Metabee see Kintora and Exor running, Metabee says Exor's name in the original, and Metabee jokingly asks "where is the fire" in the dub.
  • The texts on the screens showing details about Gryphon were removed. Those include "Grains" (Gryphon's Japanese name), Gryphon's four parts (Demolish, Drown, Ruin and Source), and a partially visible "Death Medarot" (Kilobot).
  • The duration of a scene with one of the researchers was shortened a bit.
  • A few scenes from Gryphon's test were cut.
  • Two scenes from when Gryphon tries to break the glass had their position switched. In the original, the researcher noticed that the Unitrix held by Gryphon was still functional because Unitrix's Medal hatch was still closed. In the dub, the researcher noticed that Unitrix was functional by seeing the last Kilowatch active in the room.
  • Three scenes with one of the researchers talking with Kam after the test were shortened a bit, and dialogue from related scenes changed:
    • In the original, the researcher says he will report the test's results, and Kam asks how it was, with the researcher informing that they found a compatibility problem between Blakbeetle's Medal and Gryphon. Kam says that the control system needs to be improved to avoid it from going wild again. Blakbeetle says she felt like she was being assimilated by Grain and stopping being herself, and realizes that what she is feeling now must be fear. Kam asks the researcher how long it will take to improve the control system, and the researcher says about 48 hours. Kam is not pleased with the answer, asking the researcher to do it faster, and the researcher obeys, leaving in a hurry.
    • In the dub, the researcher says they found out what the problem is, and Kam says "Yes?", with the researcher explaining that Gryphon's input is too much for Blakbeetle's Medal to handle. Kam says that Blakbeetle's Medal is the strongest, and she will only need to learn how to deal with the input. Blakbeetle says that she felt she could not control herself, feeling fear, anger, and panic all at the same time, and may not be able to handle it. Kam tells Blakbeetle to not be ridiculous, but the researcher agrees that Blakbeetle may be right. Kam dislikes what he hears and says that is not acceptable, scheduling another test for tomorrow, with the researcher reluctantly agreeing before leaving.
  • The dialogues between Kam and Blakbeetle after leaving Extreme Tech changed:
    • In the original, Blakbeetle asks if Kam ever felt fear, and Kam asks why she is making such a strange question. Blakbeetle explains that as Gryphon, she feels like her conciousness is fading, as if being possessed by a demon, and that is horrifying. Kam says that something must have affected her emotional circuits, but it is alright, because she will be able to clear those problems in the next test. Blakbeetle asks why she is having feelings if she is a Kilobot, and Kam says he does not know himself.
    • In the dub, Blakbeetle asks why she must become Gryphon, and Kam says because Gryphon is more powerful. Blakbeetle says that Gryphon is too powerful for her Medal, so much that she cannot concentrate, feeling like she is losing control. Kam is surprised that Blakbeetle felt so strong about not wanting to continue the tests. Blakbeetle asks if she can remain as Blakbeetle, and Kam says no, because he is her master and she must do what he wants, and he wants her to become Gryphon, even if she loses her personality in the process.
  • An eyecatch was added before the lights in Kam's mansion shut down.
  • The scenes between Blakbeetle escaping Kam's mansion and Dr. Maizu running were cut. Ikki and Ginkai are about to start a Robattle, and they make a bet. If Ikki wins, Ginkai must buy a nikuman for him, but if Ginkai wins, Ikki must buy a pack of coffee candy for him. The first scene with Ikki rising his arm was moved to the next part they appear, after Dr. Maizu talked with Zuru.
  • In the original, what Dr. Maizu tells Zuru is more enigmatic and ominous about why Blakbeetle's Medal needs to be destroyed before it is placed on Gryphon, with Zuru later giving details about what his father said offscreen in Nae's shop. In the dub, Dr. Maizu gives details about Gryphon going out of control if Blakbeetle's Medal is unable to handle Gryphon's input.
  • In the dub, Ginkai asks for the double or nothing after losing to Ikki, which is why Ikki later won 8 pizzas with 3 wins. In the original, Ginkai only asked for a rematch.
  • The eyecatch in the middle of the episode was moved from before Ikki got his reward from Ginkai to after Ikki and Ginkai decided to go after Blakbeetle to discover what is going on, with the part they start running being cut.
  • In the dub, Ikki says that Ginkai lost three straight matches and had to purchase 8 pocket pizzas. In the original, Ikki says that Ginkai ended up having to buy 5 nikuman for him. The rest of the scene was cut, with Arc-Dash commenting that today was a really bad day for Ginkai, as they lost 5 times in a row, and Ginkai laments because today is his birthday.
  • When Metabee complains that he got nothing, in the dub Ikki says he will use his lunch money to buy something for Metabee, while in the original Ikki says he will polish Metabee until he is shining.
  • In the original, Suzie calls Ginkai an "ossan bō" (おっさん坊, roughly "middle-aged boy"), and Ginkai asks who she is talking with, with Ikki saying that is Ginkai. In the dub, Suzie calls Ginkai a blunderbuss, and Ginkai asks what is that supposed to mean, with Ikki believing it must be clumsy.
  • The sound of Blakbeetle's metallic steps were removed, with Ginkai suddenly changing his expression for no reason in the dub.
  • The camera zooming on Ikki and Ginkai after Suzie left to chase Blakbeetle was cut.
  • Two short scenes without dialogue only showing some buildings were cut.
  • In the original, Suzie and Minitora realize on their own that they cannot fight. In the dub, Ginkai reminds that they were already defeated.
  • In the scene Metabee and Arc-Dash silently point their guns to Exor as a warning, in the dub one of them says: "Go ahead, make our day."
  • Ikki's asking if the Mystery Medafighter has not retired was omitted.
  • Zuru tells Roks to get his cutlass ready in the dub, and to use Forvice in the original. The following scene showing Roks reading his blade was editted, only showing a static image of Roks without the blade.
  • The closeup on Roks's blade was replaced by a dark screen.
  • In the dub, Kam says he will track Blakbeetle no matter where she goes, even if she is with Ikki and Metabee. In the original, Kam calls the Rogue Medafighters useless for being unable to catch someone who was not even fighting back.
  • Henry McKenna's tobacco pipe was removed.
  • In the original, McKenna reminds Kam that Gryphon was discontinued due to being too powerful, and has no commercial value. He tries to tell Kam that making a Kilobot is not a game, but a business, but Kam cuts the call, saying that he is not interested in business, only in a strong Kilobot. In the dub, McKenna says he has just been going over the figures from Gryphon and does not like it, as Gryphon is too powerful and would be too expensive for anyone to buy, not being profitable. McKenna suggests Kam to bring the prototype back so they can work on a less ambitious version, but Kam cuts the call, saying he still has plans for Gryphon.
  • An eyecatch was added after Kam finished talking with McKenna.
  • Blakbeetle gained an extra line in a silent part in Nae's shop: "Go on, tell them why you're afraid Zuru, why you think we'd be better off if I was destroyed."
  • Zuru's explanation changed:
    • In the dub, Zuru starts by saying that his father built a new Kilobot that is more powerful than anything before. Dr. Maizu used to work for Dr. Aki at the Medabot Corporation, but they did not see eye to eye about many things, one of them being about how powerful Medabots were supposed to be. Eventually, Dr. Maizu left the Medabot Corporation, taking several of the original Medals and plans with him. When he did so, one of the original Medals that he took found its way into Ginkai's hands. Nae comments that she always remembered Dr. Maizu as someone with a good heart, but when Extreme Tech hired him, they bent all his designs toward destruction. Zuru continues, saying that, for the past while, his father has been working on a new top secret design called Gryphon. It is supposed to be the ultimate Kilobot design, being so powerful that the amount of input could only be handled by the most advanced Medal, which would be Blakbeetle's Neo Ex Medal. But Dr. Maizu told Kam that the design might be too powerful for even Blakbeetle's Medal to handle, and Blakbeetle agrees. So if Kam gets his hands on Blakbeetle and forces her to become Gryphon, and she cannot handle the amount of input, then she could snap and go on a rampage, like what happened with Redrun, but a hundred times worse, with no way to stop her. Zuru then realizes that what he tried to do was wrong, but they still cannot allow Kam to get Blakbeetle's Medal, needing a different plan. Everyone starts discussing what to do, such as suggesting placing Blakbeetle's Medal in a different body, but having no bodies compatible with her Medal, or having her leave the city and live without a master, which Roks says to be something impossible.
    • In the original, Zuru starts by saying that Blakbeetle's Neo Ex Medal is a Ex Medal based on the First Medals created by Dr. Maizu. The First Medals were developed by Dr. Maizu and his friends five years ago when he worked in the Medabot Corporation. Dr. Maizu was not satisfied with the company's policy for Medabots, as his projects with outstanding fighting abilities had their development canceled due to being considered dangerous, so he left the company and took his work on the First Medals. At that time, he gave one of those Medals to a Ginkai. Nae comments that after that, Dr. Maizu was hired by Extreme Tech and created the Neo Death Medal using the First Medals as a model. Zuru confirms this, saying that conventional Ex Medal are 100% memory programs. However, in addition to their advanced combat program, the Neo Ex Medal also has emotions. Blakbeetle was developed with the idea that such strong emotions can bring out extra abilities. The new Kilobot, Gryphon, developed this idea further by having a system that only amplifies the negative emotions from the emotional circuit, such as anger, hatred, and fear. So if Black Beetle's Medal were to be attached to Grain, it would become a demon, being no longer a Kilobot, but a monster (bakemono). That is why Zuru wants to destroy Blakbeetle's Neo Ex Medal as soon as possible, but the others are against it, and they discuss about this extreme decision. Roks comments that he knows this is a difficult decision, and that it would be better if Blakbeetle and her master could get along, but that is impossible, and he will support the decision from his master.
  • A scene near the end of Zuru's explanation was shortened a bit, cutting the part Zuru lowers his head.
  • When Kam appears in Nae's shop with Gryphon:
    • In the dub, Ikki is surprised to see Gryphon, asking how Gryphon is functioning without a Medal. Kam says it is on remote until he can install its Medal, which is why he is after Blakbeetle.
    • In the original, Ikki is surprised to see Gryphon, and Kam says that, unfortunately, it is not the finished version, which is why he is after Blakbeetle.
  • In the original, Zuru still thinks destroying Blakbeetle's Medal is the right thing to do. In the dub, Zuru says they do not have much time, as if Blakbeetle loses control...
  • Like previous episodes, the design of the "to be continued" screen in the end changed.
