How Spyke Got His Style Back is the twenty-seventh episode of Medabots Spirit. It first aired in Japan on BROADCASTER on January 5, 2001.

Content[]

Summary[]

The Rogue Medafighters Minitora and Kintora humiliated Samantha in a Robattle, and Spyke felt responsible, vowing to avenge her alongside Krosserdog. After being advised by Nae, Spyke decides to develop his own Robattle style, and starts by researching the secret to Ikki's strength.

Plot[]

The ball from two kids got stuck above a tree, and Spyke asks Krosserdog to hit the ball to drop it for them. However, Krosserdog misses all of his shots, embarrassing Spyke. Minitora and Kintora appear and mock Spyke and Krosserdog, but Samantha defends Spyke by calling them Medafighters without talent that need to rely on Kilobots, with Spyke being better than them. Angry, the duo challenge Samantha and Spyke to a team Robattle. Krosserdog goes down quite fast, leaving Peppercat alone against Unitrix and Exor, who humiliate her. Ginkai appeared and challenges Minitora and Kintora to face him together, with Arc-Dash taking them down and also taking the ball for the kids.

Spyke felt responsible for what happened with Samantha, and vowed to avenge her. He decides to train with Krosserdog, but as their performance is bad, they decide to go over the basics again, attending to a Robattle class Nae was giving, where Ikki and Ginkai did a mock Robattle for the students. After being advised by Nae, Spyke decides to develop his own Robattle style, and starts by researching the secret to Ikki's strength, talking with Erika and Zuru about it.

After some more training and developing a battle strategy, planning to use the park's sandbox to slow down his opponents, Spyke challenges Minitora and Kintora. However, there was snow in the day of the match. Spyke panics, but Krosserdog reminds him of everything they did, and the snow could be used in the same way as the sand, and Spyke calls Sloan.

In the park, Unitrix and Exor were slowed down by the snow, but Krosserdog appeared with the leg parts from Sloan's Totalizer, which allowed him to move without problems, and he landed several hits. However, the Kilobots used Medachange to clear the snow, making Krosserdog lose the terrain advantage, and the Kilobots start beating him. Before going down, Krosserdog manages to defeat Unitrix with his last attack, surprising everyone present. Spyke explains that he planned to hit both Kilobots in a single spot until they were defeated, but as Exor was still standing, Krosserdog is defeated. Despite losing, everyone congratulates Spyke, as that was a nice Robattle, and even Samantha congratulates him. However, Samantha gets angry with Spyke because he did not hear her compliments and made her repeat the compliment several times.

Trivia[]

  • Similar to the Skelbots, the leg parts from Totalizer used by Krosserdog are depicted as being from the float type instead of multi-legged, with Krosserdog floating over the snow without moving the legs.
  • One of the kids seen playing ball while Spyke was talking with Erika also appeared in The Agony of the Cheat and Mystery Medafighter Unmasked?.

  • Additional dialogue was added to the two kids in the beginning, and their dialogue changed a bit. In the dub, one of the kids comment that it was the third ball they lost in that week. In the original, the kids plan how to get the baseball back, suggesting to throw a rock at it.
  • In the beginning of the episode's first Robattle, the names from Exor and Unitrix were swapped twice. Minitora called Exor and Kintora called Unitrix instead of their own Kilobots, and Samantha told Spyke to go after Exor while she gets Unitrix, which did not happen due to Kintora telling Exor to get Krosserdog.
  • Peppercat gained additional lines during the Robattle, such as mentioning that she was like a mouse in a trap when surrounded.
  • Most mentions to Arc-Dash's parts in this episode, Appendix and Scatter, were omitted. The exception is Scatter being called Blaster during the mock Robattle against Metabee.
  • Arc-Dash gained extra lines, such as saying that "this is my favorite part" when he was about to defeat Exor, and talking when he was leaving, while he only waved his hand silently in the original.
  • An eyecatch was added after Ginkai and Arc-Dash left.
  • Spyke's lines after Arc-Dash left changed a bit, such as omitting his mention of wanting a rematch against Minitora and Kintora.
  • In Nae's board, the first text, ロボトルはじめてきょうしつ ("Robattle Beginner Class"), was changed to "Robattle 101", and the other texts were removed. The removed texts are ロボトルいってはあに? ("What is Robattle?"), ロボトルのルール ("Rules of Robattle"), and かちまけのきめかた ("How the outcome is decided").
  • In the original, Ginkai mentioned that he only accepted to help Nae because he would gain coffee jelly.
  • Arc-Dash getting angry with Metabee's continuous taps (as he got carried away with Nae's praise) and hitting Metabee's face with his horn was cut.
  • A scene with Krosserdog was cut.
  • The full view of the school was cut.
  • In the dub, Ikki will need to carry Sloan's books for some days due to losing the bet. In the original, Ikki instead will have to buy pudding to Sloan for weeks.
  • The part where Ikki lost a bet to Erika and will have to clean the classroom alone was cut. Spyke saw what happened and decided to go talk with Erika.
  • In the original, Zuru tells Spyke that a strong point from Ikki and Metabee is that they have a strong bond, not being like a Medabot and master relationship, but being more like best friends or brothers that trust each other. In the dub, Zuru talks about their confidence being quite balanced, noting that "there's a very fine line between being confident and reckless, and Ikki always crosses over it back and forth, like a skipping rope."
  • Spyke and Krosserdog jogging again was cut, only showing the shooting training.
  • In the original, Erika notes that Spyke's Robattle will be tomorrow in the park near the river at 8 AM, and Sloan is worried, asking if Spyke has any chance against two Kilobots. In the dub, Erika says that Spyke may have a chance as he has been asking about Ikki's Robattling style, and Sloan is confused, asking what Ikki's fashion sense has anything to do with it.
  • The text "Death Medarot" was removed from the Kilowatch screens.
  • A scene with Minitora was cut.
  • Additional dialogues were added during the Robattle.
  • Some scenes from the Robattle were cut, such as half of the scenes with Krosserdog hitting the Kilobots, and one of the parts with Exor punching Krosserdog.
  • In Spyke's Medawatch, the name of the parts Headcannon, Aimrifle, Battlerifle, and Rollertank were shortened as Head, Aim, Battler, and Roller.
  • The mention of Krosserdog only having one bullet left for his last attack was omitted.
  • In the original, Samantha congratulated Spyke in a quietly way, thus why Spyke did not understood her. In the dub, Samantha talks normally, but Spyke still did not understood her.
