Spyke,[1] also known as Spike,[2] known in Japanese as Iwanoi (イワノイ), is a recurring character in Medabots.

Description[]

Spyke is the number 2 (3 in the anime) member of the Screws. He is a self-proclaimed genius hacker, but also a wimp that always cries out for his boss when things get tough. In most depictions he uses dog type Medabots, specially Krosserdog.

In some way or another, the Screws always end up being pitted against Ikki's gang. This started when Ikki first defeated the Screws in a Robattle with Metabee. Ever since, Samantha has been too stubborn to admit defeat. However, when the situation needs it, they may lend each other a helping hand.

In the games[]

Medarot 2 and Medabots (GBA)[]

As a member of the Screws, Spyke is usually seen following his boss, Samantha. He is the third Medafighter the player has a Robattle with, and he is also faced on different occassions. Near the end of the game he gives Ikki a walkie-talkie and stays in a computer to help him unlock the electronic locks from the Rubberobo Gang's hideout.

In Medarot 2 his main Medabot is Krossedog, while in the GBA remake his main Medabot is a Cyandog. In both games his main Medabot has a ? Medal.

Medarot 3 and 4[]

Iwanoi is usually seen following his boss. His main Medarots are Purple Collar and Straywolf.

Medarot R[]

Iwanoi is usually seen following his boss.

Medarot Navi[]

Iwanoi appears after the story is completed. His Medarot is Straywolf.

Medabots AX[]

Spyke is one of the opponents in the tournament.

Medabots Infinity[]

Spyke appears in the game.

Medarot Dual[]

Iwanoi appears in a DLC mission. His partner Medarot is Blues Dog.

Medarot S: Unlimited Nova[]

In the retelling of Medarot 2, he is faced by himself three times, and is also faced alongside the Screws. His main Medarot returned being Blues Dog, and he has Cyan Dog as a support. In the second and third time he is faced alone, he also has a third member with mixed parts, having Charged Seeds's head on both encounters, Seven Colors's arms and Charged Seeds's legs on the second, and Cyan Dog's arms and Blues Dog's legs on the third. His Cyan Dog also has Charged Seeds's legs on the second encounter. All members from his team have Dog Medals.

He also appeared as a Medarotter type equipment. During the Rockman EXE collaboration, a limited version of him was available with Higure's clothes.

In the anime[]

Anime Spyke episode 02

Spyke

Spyke's anime counterpart did not display to have the same technical knowledge as his game counterpart, and he is also more wimpy. He never wins his Robattles, but strives to please his boss, Samantha, in any way he can, though he usually fails. This has resulted in him being fired from the group a few times. At first, Spyke's Medabot is Cyandog, who always loses because Spyke has a Medal that's incompatible with his parts (a Monkey Medal, made for hand-to-hand combat, in a DOG-type body, made for shooting). In Heavy Medal he purchased a newer DOG-type body, Krosserdog.

Fixing this problem would be as simple as matching the right Medal to the right body type. Spyke however refuses to consider getting a shooting type Medal since that would mean he would be getting rid of his friend. This is made all the harder by his apparent preference to shooting types since, despite knowing now he should get a close combat type body for the Medal, which would mean he'd still have his friend only in a new body which could actually win battles, he chose to get a newer shooting type body for it where it is still highly incompatible. Additionally, Spyke himself is not very skilled at Robattles, with Cyandog being shown to be able to fight properly with a different Medafighter in the episodes Meet Your Meda-Maker and Heavy Medal.

He has an unfounded belief in his Medabot and tries his hardest to win Robattles. However, because his Medabot isn't compatible with its Medal he has earned his rank as the worst Medafighter in all of Japan. Despite this, he was of great assistance when disguised as Space Medafighter X during the World Robattle Cup.

In Medabots Spirit, Spyke's abilities improved, winning in a training match against Sloan, and almost winning a match against two Kilobots, which he would have won if his opponents were not cheaters.
