Kilobot Rising is the first episode of Medabots Spirit, the sequel of the Medabots anime.
Content[]
Summary[]
A new Medawatch developed by the Medabot Corporation has been released. However, Ikki and Metabee, who forgot to make a reservation, were unable to get their hands on it and were at a loss. Meanwhile, a rogue Medafighter named Ginkai appears in front of the Screws, who have obtained the new Medawatch and were testing them.
Plot[]
In the morning, a kid named Ginkai won a new robot named Desperado from Kam, and is ready to test him. After the kids watched the presentation about a new Medawatch model, the Medawatch Advance, Erika and the Screws tell Ikki that they already pre-ordered theirs, with Ikki being unaware of how popular it was, and the Screws laugh that he will not be able to simply find one in stores.
While Ikki laments on his way back home, as it will take six months before he can get a Medawatch Advance, Ikki and Metabee meet a younger kid named Tak that is their fan and got his Medabot not long ago, and they spar, with Ikki teaching him how to properly Robattle. Ikki and Metabee also meet Nae, who says that she can get the new Medawatch for Ikki tomorrow.
While the Screws were testing their new Medawatches, Ginkai appeared and challenged Samantha for a Robattle, winning by cheating, taking down Peppercat before they were ready. Ginkai takes Peppercat's Medal and asks Samantha to bring him the strongest Medafighter in town in exchange for it. Samantha runs to a phone and calls Ikki, the finalist of the World Robattle Championship, and Ginkai tosses Peppercat's Medal away after Ikki arrives, with Samantha retrieving it and leaving. When both Metabee and Desperado run out of ammo, Ginkai cheats by reloading during the match, and when nothing works against Desperado, Ikki and Metabee use the Medaforce, but it fails, and Metabee loses the match.
Later, Ginkai talks with Kam, who explains to Ginkai that the Medaforce did not work because his Kilobots lack emotions. Ginkai asked if the Kilobots did not had everything a Medabot had, and Kam explains that a Medal has two key traits, the Medabot's personality and power, and by cutting the personality, the Kilobot's Ex Medals have more room for power. Kam then started planning to promote his Kilobots.
The next day, Ginkai and Desperado were bullying Erika and Brass, and Tak calls Ikki to help them. Suddenly, Nae shows up with the new Medawatch and new parts, asking Ikki if he would let her test them on Metabee. They agree, and Metabee equips the new parts. With the new parts, Ikki activates a new mode called Medachange, which turns Metabee into a wheeled form. Metabee races around Desperado, goes behind him and hits his head on the ground, defeating him.
Trivia[]

A big Ex Medal.
- In the first time an Ex Medal (probably packaged, as its design is identical to the company's mark instead of an actual Ex Medal) is shown, its size is normal, but in the next scene showing it closer, its size doubled.
- In the explanation about Medabots, the way Stingaray's parts are assembled in the Tinpet is different from how they are usually depicted. First, only the head was added, without the torso, then the torso and both arms are added together, and finally the legs.
Background[]
- Although Medabots Spirit is a sequel to the previous anime, with Ikki being mentioned to be the finalist from the World Robattle Cup, its setting takes a slightly parallel path from the predecessor.
English dub changes[]

Medarot Company Event Hall

Medarot text in Samantha's Medawatch Advance.

Desperado using his head part.

Metabee's presentation.
- The text メダロット社・イベントホール (Medarot Company Event Hall) was removed.
- All appearances of the text Medarot in the Event Hall had the R editted into a B, becoming Medabot.
- The text Medarot was removed from the Medawatch Advance.
- The last scene with the monorail was sped up, and its dialogue changed. In the dub, Erika asks Ikki if he was alright, and Metabee says that he only needs some air. In the original, Metabee tries to cheer Ikki by saying that even without the Medawatch Advance, they are still strong.
- Komandog lacks a text presentation in the original version.
- A commercial break was added after Ikki agreed to Robattle with Tak.
- Two scenes with Tak before he leaves were shortened, cutting a static part and the part Tak is bowing.
- The silent part with the camera moving after Nae says "I saw it" was cut.
- A short scene showing the rain was cut.
- Ginkai's mention to the term "Death Medarotter" (Rogue Medafighter in English, used in latter episodes) and the name from some of Desperado's parts (specially the head, Mega Barrel) were omitted.
- When scenes from this episode repeated in Thanks for the Memories, some of the lines changed a bit, and Ginkai mentioned he is a Rogue Medafighter and told Desperado to use Mega Barrel. However, like this episode, all scenes with Mega Barrel in use were editted, and Desperado was shown using his arms after Ginkai's order, while Who is the Mystery Medafighter?! showed that Mega Barrel is the head part.
- The muzzle on Desperado's head part was removed in most scenes, except for the one Desperado turns around after taking Peppercat's Medal, and Desperado's stat screen informs that it is a hammer type Kilobot.
- The first scene with Peppercat being shot was shortened.
- Part of the battle between Peppercat and Desperado was cut, such as Desperado jumping closer to Peppercat, using his head part, and attacking Peppercat again after her function ceased.
- Another short scene showing the rain was cut, with a commercial break being included on its place.
- Metabee's Robattle against Desperado had several edits, as Desperado used the head part multiple times, with most scenes being replaced by Desperado attacking with the arms.
- In Ikki's first Robattle against Ginkai, in the Japanese version Ikki's first command was Revolver, the name of Metabee's right arm, which Metabee uses. In the English dub, Ikki says "missile launch" instead, with the missiles being on Metabee's head, and Metabee follows by shooting with his right arm.
- In the original, both Metabee and Desperado were shown out of ammo when they attempted to use their head parts, but due to the changes done to Desperado, the Kilobot is shown reloading his "hammer" head part to use his arms.
- In the original, during Desperado's barrage, Ikki gives a command to Metabee, but Metabee did not hear it due to noise of the shots. Ikki then realizes that they need a Medawatch after all.
- Of note, Ikki's original Medawatch broke in the original anime's episode Taking the Victor Out of Victory, explaining why he lacked a Medawatch until he got the Medawatch Advance. The importance of its absence was not mentioned in the dub.
- In the dub, after Desperado recharges, although Desperado's arms are shown shooting several times from the arms, Metabee is hit by single large blasts that pushed him, which were fired from Desperado's head in the original.
- The scene with a train passing after Metabee's defeat was replaced by an eyecatch.
- Ginkai's dialogue with Kam was shortened a bit, and some lines changed.
- In the dub, after Kam mentioned Ginkai's victory against Ikki, Ginkai confirms that Kam's prediction of the Medaforce not working against Desperado was true. Kam then explains to Ginkai that the Medaforce acts on the opponent's emotions, and it will not work on Kilobots due to their Ex Medals having no personality, their removal also leaving more room for power.
- In the original, after Kam mentioned Ginkai's victory against Ikki, Ginkai says that his victory was thanks to the Desperado Kam gave to him, saying that his power is so high that it feels more like a real weapon than a toy. Kam warns Ginkai to not lower his guard, as he heard Ikki did not had a Medawatch, but Ginkai does not worry about it, saying that he won against them either way. Kam also says that all the boxes present are ammo for Ginkai's Desperado.
- The "Death" in the boxes near Ginkai and Kam were removed. Of note, in Japanese Kilobots are known as Death Medarots, and the Ex Medals as Death Medals.
- A scene with Ikki and Metabee was shortened a bit.
- The scene showing Desperado shooting at Brass after her function ceased was cut.
- Ginkai waiting Metabee finish placing his new parts was shortened a bit.
- In the original, Metabee is introduced as the "new KBT type Metabee".
- The two times Desperado used his head part in the rematch were also modified.
For all episodes in the series:

Stage 3 Kabuto Medal in the original opening.
- The opening, title, and ending changed.
- Of note, the Japanese opening shows Metabee's Kabuto Medal on the third stage, but during the show his Medal remained on the second stage.
- In the dub, the title always appears in the beginning of the episode. In the original, the title usually appears after a few minutes, and a narrator (Hozumi Gōda) says the title.
- While in the original anime the Japanese version had eyecatches and the English dub lacked them, the reverse is true in Medabots Spirit, the dub having three eyecatches per episode and the original rarely having them.
- The soundtrack was replaced.
- The dub has some extra lines and dialogue changes to make the anime more humorous.
- When a new Medabot or Kilobot is introduced, the Japanese version only shows their name and model type. In the dub, those are followed by a stats screen with additional information.
- In the English dub, Metabee gives a summary of what happened in the episode before the credits, replacing the Robattle Stats. In the Japanese version, there is a preview of the next episode after the credits.
