Metabee's Last Stand is the 52nd episode from the Medabots anime.
Content[]
Summary[]
In order to compete with Dr. Meta-Evil's trump card, Babbyblu, the Giant Metabee, which was secretly developed by Dr. Aki, appears! Ikki and Metabee must save the world!
Plot[]
The Select Corps attempt an attack on Dr. Meta-Evil's weapon of mass destruction, but they are no match for Babbyblu. Ikki, the Phantom Renegade and the others try and fail as well.

Babbyblu attacking.
Dr. Aki initiates a tactical retreat and instructs Barton to start Plan G. Dr. Aki knew Dr. Meta-Evil would try to take over the world again and prepared by creating a Giant Metabee. The huge Medabot draws its power from Medals and will receive commands from a large Medawatch that fits around Ikki's waist. Metabee is transported into its main cockpit. Unfortunately, Metabee doesn't have enough power to move it, and Babbyblu knocks him over. Brass, Sumilidon, Peppercat, and the other Medabots want to help. "More Medabots...More Power!" The bots are transported into the emergency cockpits in the left and right limbs as well as the chest. The interior hookups attach to their back hatches, and their energy is sent to Metabee. It works!

Giant Metabee's Medaforce.
Mr. Referee regains control and declares a Robattle. Metabee starts with his laser cannons, then his fire fist, but Babbyblu has a powerful force field. Finally, seeker missiles are used, but the huge giggling baby bot remains unscratched. When Dr. Meta-Evil attacks, Giant Metabee is left with heavy damage to both legs. Then a miracle happens. Everyone that has ever Robattled Metabee shows up to lend a hand. The power of their friendship and hope allowed Metabee to awaken the dormant power in all of the clone Medals. Meanwhile, Rokusho is shown leaving the remains of the Medadome. and as all Medals started shining, Victor was able to find Warbandit's Medal. All of their Medaforce power is given to Metabee, allowing him to use a giant Medaforce that is able to break through Babbyblu's force field. Sadly, Babbyblu itself is immune to the Medaforce, and attacks again, damaging all of Metabee's weapons. Metabee boldly states he still has his fighting spirit. In a selfless act, he ejects all of the Medabots from their cockpits, and takes down Babbyblu in a kamikaze-type attack. Ikki is in tears over the loss of his best friend.
Dr. Meta-Evil escaped with a parachute and threatens to build a more powerful Medabot when Brandon appears and tells him to admit defeat. Shortly, a space ship lowers and Dr. Hushi appears to talk with everybody present. The days of Medabots consumed by Robattling are over. Dr. Meta-Evil's cat sheds its helmet and walks off meowing. Surprisingly enough, the cat's helmet had a Medal, which was the actual descendant of the Medalorians. Hushi invites Dr. Meta-Evil to accompany him to space, and he agrees. Brandon reveals to be an alien and escorts them away, but not before returning Metabee to Ikki.

Giant Metabee and Babbyblu explode.
In the remains of the Medadome, Seaslug objects when the rest of the Rubberobo Gang quit to pursue new lives. Miss Caviar tries to convice him to quit to, but as he refuses, in a "If you can't beat em, join em!" attitude, she sheds her Space Medafighter X attire for a rubber suit, joining Seaslug, and they begin a new life together.
As everyone views the damage Dr. Meta-Evil has left, Victor approaches Ikki. He says next time he will Robattle Ikki again, but this time with honor and dignity. Henry says, "Why not now?", and generously gives Victor new parts and a Tinpet from the convenience store, and Mr. Referee appears to act as the referee from the match.
Robattle... Fight!
Trivia[]

Tokyo Tower

Dr. Aki using a Medawatch to call Barton.
- The tower destroyed in the battle between the giant Medabots is the Tokyo Tower.
- This episode is the only time the Medawatch is shown being used as a communicator in the original anime, with Dr. Aki using one to call Barton in the Medabot Corporation, and Natalie using her Medawatch to contact Ikki's giant Medawatch. Usually, the Medawatch is depicted as only allowing communication between a Medafighter and the Medabot assigned to it, with each being able to act as intermediaries when separated.
- This voice call function did not return in Medabots Spirit as the Medanetboard is the device primarily used for communications. However, the Medawatch was shown to be able to receive text messages in Lights, Camera... Robattle!.
- On a related note, the game series writer Hirano Kana lamented not thinking about using either the Medawatch or a cell phone instead of a walkie talkie as a communicator in Medarot 2.[1]
- When the Medabots are entering Giant Metabee, Kantaroth is seen entering the left arm, and Sumilidon the right arm. However, when Giant Metabee is shown using his attacks, Kantaroth is in the right arm, and Sumilidon in the left arm.
- Inside Giant Metabee, the screen in front of Peppercat, Neutranurse, and Brass brightens when each followed Metabee's attack command. Except for Brass (left arm), the part used does not correspond with their position, with Neutranurse (center) being highlighted when using the right arm, and Peppercat (right, from their point of view) with the head. It is unknown if this is part of Giant Metabee's design or an animation error.
- When several characters appear to give their support for Ikki and Metabee, the seven Medabots that are inside Giant Metabee alongside Metabee are seen outside.
In the episode[]
Background[]
English dub changes[]

Half of the Medabot Corporation building is destroyed.

Erika's newspaper.

Hop Mart closed.

Henry and Arcbeetle leaving.
- The dub added additional childish sounds for Babbyblu. The giant Medabot only "talked" six times in the original.
- Part of the conversation between the Chick Seller and Mr. Referee was cut, and their dialogue was adapted:
- English dub:
- Chick Seller: "Running away? You know, there are two types of grown-ups in this world: Those who have never known failure and those who won't let mistakes stop them from trying again."
- Mr. Referee: "You can't expect me to go back and work for Meda-Evil! That would go against everything in the referee's code of honor."
- Chick Seller: "The code of honor? Without a referee, there is no code."
- Mr. Referee: "You're right!"
- Rough translation of Japanese version:
- Chick Seller: "Wait a moment! There are two types of adults in this world: There are adults who properly fulfill their responsibilities, and adults who strive to fulfill their responsibilities."
- Mr. Referee: "Although you say that, aren't there many adults in this world who don't fulfill their responsibilities?"
- Chick Seller: "They are not adults. They are just stupid brats who have grown older in vain." (Mr. Referee is shocked by the harsh words) "Medarots are for children, but they need a referee to kindly watch over them playing. Isn't that what an adult must do?"
- Mr. Referee: "You're right!"
- English dub:
- The Medarot in the Medabot Corporation was translated as Medabot in most appearances. In one scene the Medarot text was darkened to hide it.
- The part where half of the Medabot Corporation's building is destroyed when Babbyblu pushed Giant Metabee was cut, and the scene that appears after his fall was moved to the cut part, fitting the timing of his fall.
- A fadeout was added after Metabee's fall, and some of the scenes in-between were repeated and slightly changed.
- In the original, Metabee does not know what to do, saying he cannot move Giant Metabee on his own. In the dub, Metabee gave the idea that he needs more Medabots to help him, saying the dub's catchphrase: "More Medabots. More power."
- Giant Metabee's Revolver was called laser cannon in the dub.
- In the original, after Giant Metabee used a rocket punch, Ikki wonders why a KBT type (which is specialized in shooting) has a punch, and Dr. Aki argues that a rocket punch is the soul of giant robots (a reference to Mazinger Z), and Erika and Ikki ask if the doctor actually built it as a hobby (rather than for the case of an emergency). In the dub, Ikki jokes that it would be handy if Giant Metabee had an extra hand, and Dr. Aki says he does not need one as "reduce, reuse, recycle" applies to Medabots too, and Erika and Ikki assume that Dr. Aki created Giant Metabee with recycled materials to be environmentally friendly. In the same part, Erika calls Giant Metabee as "Metagee"/"Meta G" in the dub.
- The fadeout before the eyecatches was removed. Like the previous episodes, the audio from the first eyecatch is different from the usual.
- A fadeout was added after Giant Metabee was knocked down, and a scene with Metabee was repeated, being added before the fadeout.
- When Natalie appears, in the dub she says that everyone Ikki ever Robattled with appeared to support him. In the original, Natalie does not mention Robattles in this part, as Ikki was not seen Robattling with some of the characters that appeared, like Paco, Mrs. Pimply, the Old Master of the Sea, and the Ninja Park's presenter.
- Dr. Aki's mention to atavism before he explains that the Rare Medal unleashed the potential of the copy Medals was omitted.
- The dub omitted Dr. Meta-Evil's explanation that Babbyblu's Fracture can nullify the Medaforce. Instead, Dr. Meta-Evil only says that Babbyblu is more than a match for Giant Metabee's Medaforce. Fracture is Babbyblu's head part, which has Force Control in the games.
- When Giant Metabee places Ikki on the floor, in the dub Ikki says "Metabee, please don't sacrifice yourself for us", realizing Metabee's intention. In the original, Ikki took a little longer to realize what Metabee was planning to do, starting to cry when he realized it.
- In the final moments from the Robattle, although Ikki and Dr. Meta-Evil move their mouths, their voices are not heard in the original. The dub added them screaming "Metabee!" and "Nooo!", respectively.
- A fadeout was added after Babbyblu's defeat.
- When the young man appears, Samantha and Natalie call him Brandon in the dub, while they only say "that's..." in the original. Brandon is unnamed in the Japanese version. Afterwards, he says he is "only a passing fan of Medabots" in the original, and "I think enough is enough doctor" in the dub.
- The part Erika asks about Dr. Aki's real name was cut, as in the dub he does not use a nickname. In the original, he was only called as Dr. Medarot until Professor Hushi used his full name, Akihabara Atom. While Hushi calls Aki by his full name in the dub, Eugene Aki, Dr. Aki was called as Eugene by Dr. Meta-Evil in the previous episode.
- Natalie's and Samantha's reactions to the revelation of Brandon being an alien in disguise was cut. Natalie was disappointed, and Samantha was angry that he played with her heart.
- The conversation between the Rubberobo Gang leaders was shortened a bit, and some lines are different.
- The name Miss Caviar uses when she joins Seaslug is Miss Starfish in the dub and Okizuke in the original.
- In the dub, Miss Starfish suggests Seaslug to open a supervillain consulting firm or a rubber clothing store. In the original, she suggests to form a Neo Roborobo Gang.
- In the original, the opening theme plays during the final part.
- The scene where Henry shows the Warbandit parts is reversed, first showing the parts, then Henry, and his eye was editted to show him blinking. He keeps his left eye closed in the original. The Medarot text in Warbandit's box was not changed.
- The Japanese ending credits has different images from the usual, with only three images (the first two and Ikki in school) being the same. Some display details that were left unknown in the dub due to the different ending:
- Victor is seen eating breakfast in Ikki's house.
- The headline from Erika's newspaper informed that Ikki suffered a "crushing defeat" (イッキ惨敗), suggesting that Ikki lost the match against Victor.
- Instead of relaxing under a tree, Metabee, alongside Brass, is seen studying in a classroom, with Dr. Bokchoy acting as the teacher. This may be related with a dialogue that happened in the Japanese version of Ban All Medabots, suggesting that Medabots now go to school.
- Seaslug is still causing trouble, now accompanied by Miss Starfish. They appear above a bus with the text ぎんじょう幼稚園 ("Ginjyo Kindergarten").
- Ikki and his friends retrieved several Medals from Seaslug and Starfish. The picture of an Orkamar and a Mokusei Dai-Oh are shown next to two Medals, suggesting that they are the Medals from Belmont and Čapek.
- The part the Screws appear was updated, with Krosserdog replacing Cyandog.
- Hop Mart closed.
- Henry and Arcbeetle moved away.
- Instead of Ikki and Metabee, the last scene shows Mr. Referee and the Chick Seller.
Characters[]
Note: All characters are listed in order of their first appearances in the episode. The time they appear is the time from the Japanese dub. Babbyblu and Giant Metabee are not included as they are giant Medabots controlled by a character from their cockpits instead of a Medal.
