Miss Caviar, known in Japanese as Karasumi (カラスミ), is a character from the Medabots anime. She is an intelligent and mild mannered woman with shoulder length dark hair who works for the Medabot Corporation.
History[]
Miss Caviar made her first appearance in The Spy Who Robattled Me when Seaslug of the Rubberobo Gang, disguised with the alias "Mr. Tunahead", attempted to sneak into the Medabot Corporation as a spy to find and steal trade secrets and Rare Medals. Miss Caviar and Seaslug fall in love, and for a while Seaslug considers leaving the Rubberobo Gang to stay with her, but after a miscommunication, he thinks that she is seeing someone else.
Heartbroken, Seaslug attempts to steal the brand new Belzelga, believing it to contain a Rare Medal, and he takes Belzelga to the roof of the Medabot Corporation and reveals his true identity. After a Robattle against Metabee, Brass, and Neutranurse, Belzelga is stopped and Seaslug escapes in a helicopter, wishing her luck with her love. Miss Caviar attempts to tell Mr. Tunahead that she is not seeing anyone and that she loves him, but the noise of the helicopter muffles her cries. She still is madly in love with him even after learning the truth and keeps a picture of him in a locket.

Ms. Caviar joins Seaslug as Ms. Starfish.
Later in the series, Miss Caviar learns that Seaslug has become the chairman of the World Medabot Federation and tries unsuccessfully to meet with him. To get close to him, she blackmails Dr. Aki and the Phantom Renegade into letting her don the golden mask of Space Medafighter X from Team Japan, and fights Team Kenya using a Belzelga in the final match from the World Robattle Cup. Before the match, she makes a deal with Seaslug: If Team Japan wins, he must abandon the Rubberobo Gang, but if Team Kenya wins, she will join the Rubberobo Gang. However, when only Metabee and Warbandit were left, the match is interrupted by Dr. Meta-Evil's plan, and the Rubberobo Gang is betrayed by their leader.
At the end of the series, Miss Caviar tries to convince Seaslug to leave the Rubberobo Gang, as he was basically the only member left, with the others quitting due to Dr. Meta-Evil's betrayal. Seaslug refuses to give up, and so she decides to join him, calling herself "Ms. Starfish" ("Okizuke" in Japanese). Seaslug removes one of his gold antennas and sticks it on her head saying "Consider this our engagement ring". In the original version, they start the "Neo Roborobo Gang". In the dub, Starfish suggested Seaslug to open a supervillain consulting firm or a rubber clothing store.

Trivia[]
- Miss Caviar was named Awamori (アワモリ) during the anime's development.[1]
Etymology[]
- Karasumi is a high priced delicacy that is usually eaten while drinking sake. Karasumi is made by salting mullet roe pouch and drying it in sunlight. A theory suggests that it got its name from its resemblance to the blocks of sumi (墨, inkstick) imported from China (Kara, 唐) for use in Japanese calligraphy. The name fits both the sake themed naming from Medarot 2 and the meat themed naming from the Rubberobo Gang leaders in the same game.
- Her early Japanese name comes from awamori (泡盛), an alcoholic beverage from Okinawa, Japan. It is made from long grain indica rice, and is not a direct product of brewing, like sake, but of distillation, like shōchū. This may be related with the decision to change her name to Karasumi.
- Caviar is an expensive delicacy. Traditionally, the term caviar refers only to roe from wild sturgeon in the Caspian Sea and Black Sea, but it can also describe the roe of other species of sturgeon or other fish, such as salmon.
- Okizuke (沖漬け) is a dish made with meat (more commonly with picked squid) marinated in soy sauce, and may include sake. Of note, Seaslug's Japanese name may come from sake kasu, which is used as a marinade base in different Japanese dishes.
- A starfish is a star-shaped species that lives on the seabed in all the world's oceans, from warm, tropical zones to frigid, polar regions, and are found from shallow areas down to abyssal depths. The name combines with her going to great lengths to stay with her beloved Mr. Tunahead.
