Anime Weathered Rare Medal

A weathered Rare Medal in the anime.

Rare Medals (レアメダル Rea Medaru) are the natural Medals (天然メダル tennen Medaru) in the Medabots series that were found and used as the base for the modern, artificial Medals (人工メダル jinkō Medaru). Their creators are unknown, being believed to be from an ancient extraterrestrial civilisation.

Weathered Medals[]

Weathered Medals (風化したメダル Fuukashita Medaru) are fossilized versions of the Rare Medals found in excavations that are too damaged to work on Medabots.

A Weathered Medal was included with the Medarotch Revival Ver.. As part of the Medarot x Digital Monster collaboration, if the DIM Card included as a limited time bonus with the Medarotch Revival Ver. is used on the Vital Bracelet Digital Monster, a Weathered Medal will be available as a fresh level Digimon (written as フウカシタメダル in the game). Its digievolved forms include a normal Medal, a Tinpet, an incomplete Medarot (Metabee or Rokusho missing parts), and a complete Medarot.

In the games[]

The Medal from Ikki's first Medabot (Metabee in the Kabuto Version, Rokusho in the Kuwagata Version) is a Rare Medal.[1]

In Medarot S: Unlimited Nova, Rare Medals are Medals with unique abilities. The Greed, Seed, Spring, and Wrath Medals are Rare Medals. It is implied that the Envy and S Medals may also be Rare Medals.

In the manga[]

Original series[]

In the original Medarot manga series, Rare Medals have unimaginable amounts of power compared to a normal Medal, mainly noted for being able to use the Medaforce. There is a case of an artificial Medal being able to forcibly use the Medaforce, but that is too much power for the Medal to handle, the pain causing the Medabot to go out of control. The Phantom Renegade steals Rare Medals to protect them from those seeking to use them for evil deeds.

While not specified to be Rare Medals, as the term was introduced alongside the Medaforce in the Medarot 2 manga adaptation, in the first game's adaptation Medarots with natural Medals were immune to the Roborobo Gang's global control, and they are seen with large wings when the Medal awakens.

Medarot Reloaded[]

Someone kidnapped Kagami's childhood friend, Mamori, to coerce him into participating in the World Robattle Cup and obtain its prize for them, a Rare Medal protected by the WMA. Like the games, all Medals can use the Medaforce, but the Medaforce has four levels of rarity (Normal, Rare, Epic and Legend) that determine their power.

In the anime[]

In the Medabots anime, Rare Medals are thought to have been created by an ancient civilisation called the Medalorians. By analyzing them, Dr. Hushi discovered a way to clone the Medals, and Dr. Aki later mass-produced Medals in the Medabot Corporation to sell them as one of the components from Medabots.[2] Medabots with a Rare Medal are more powerful than the copies, and are able to use the Medaforce. Rare Medals also have a stronger consciousness than the copies, and it was implied that they are the only Medals able to dream.[3]

The Kabuto Medal from Ikki's Metabee is a Rare Medal, its power explaining his strong personality and why an old Medabot model was able to easily face three opponents and win in his first Robattle. Other Medabots confirmed to have a Rare Medal are Dr. Hushi's Rokusho (Kuwagata Medal), Henry's Arcbeetle (a damaged Kabuto Medal), Patra's Cleobattler (Alien Medal), and Victor's Warbandit (Kabuto Medal). Although he does not have a Rare Medal, Koji's Sumilidon is also able to use the Medaforce.

The Ten Days of Darkness was caused by a resonance between Rare Medals during the World Robattle Cup, which caused all Medabots in the world to go berserk. This led to the Phantom Renegade stealing Rare Medals for Dr. Aki to prevent that the event happens again, and also to avoid that the Rare Medals are misused. The Rubberobo Gang was able to use a rare Kabuto Medal to control all Medabots with a Kabuto Medal. This control only worked on copies, Rare Medals being immune to it.[2]

In Medabots Spirit, Dr. Aki says that the earliest copies of Rare Medals were identical to the originals. Those Medals, known as First Medals, allowed them to use the Medaforce. The Kuwagata Medal from Zuru's Roks and the Kabuto Medal from Ginkai's Arcbeetle Dash are some of the first Medal copies.[4][5]
