Summary[]

Erika has a close encounter with an eerie looking spaceship. Ikki tries to convince her that aliens don't exist, but she remains unfazed, going so far as to coerce Metabee into helping her and Brass catch an alien for an exclusive interview?[1]

Plot[]

Erika and Brass are walking late at a night when they suddenly encounter aliens. The next day she told what happened to Ikki and Metabee, but they don't believe her, and Ikki says that she would need to capture one alien to prove their existance. Using Metabee as bait, she prepared an alien trap that ended up capturing an alien researcher named Dr. Scrounge, who shared his knowledge about aliens with them. Elsewhere, it is revealed the aliens are actually the Rubberobo Gang, a group of petty villains that got the idea of making others believe that they are aliens. They become famous and even have several merchandise on sale, and they announced a big event on the Ginjyo Elementary School. In the event, Ikki unmasks the fake aliens and fights against them. Disappointed, Erika at first runs away, but after talking with the Chick Seller, she returns and has a Robattle against their Gorem, winning the match. The Rubberobo Gang wanted to continue, and Seaslug kicks the Mr. Referee, saying that villains don't follow the rules. This severe violation of the rules angered Mr. Referee, and Penalty Box takes down Seaslug, forcing the Rubberobo Gang to retreat. The next day, Ikki wonders if Erika learned her lesson, but she appeared to ask Ikki to help her investigate the rumors about a giant sea creature in the water park...

Trivia[]

In the episode[]

  • Erika won Gorem's left arm.

Background[]

English dub changes[]

Roborobo alien autograph

The autograph: "Dear Arika & Brass, I'm an alien, Roborobo Gang."

Anime episode 6 two guys

Two guys near the Rubberobo Gang's hideout.

  • This is the first time Ikki and Erika meet the Rubberobo Gang in the original, but as it aired several episodes later in the dub, everyone knows that they are villains, some dialogues being changed to reflect this. For example, in one part of the dub Dr. Scrounge theorized that the infamous villains known as the Rubberobo Gang are actually aliens, while in the original he theorized that the aliens may have a secret base on Earth.
    • This change also made Erika more naïve for believing them, although one of her quotes in the dub made it look like she was aware of it and cared more about the scoop: "Ikki, don't even think about ruining my biggest news scoop ever!".
  • When Erika shows the bad photo of the aliens, in the original Metabee concludes that humans get confused more easily than Medabots, implying that Erika is not thinking clearly. In the dub Metabee concludes that Erika takes bad pictures and will believe on anything, saying he is a leprechaun and asking her to find his pot of gold in the end of a rainbow.
  • Brass showing the autograph from the aliens was replaced by a still image of her, and the dialogue also changed. In the original their autograph is presented as an additional proof of their meeting, but Ikki wonders why aliens would know Japanese, also pointing that there is a writing error (referring to 賛江), and thinks Erika is lying. In the dub Brass notes that other people also saw aliens and they may appear again, but Ikki doesn't believe on aliens.
  • The close up of the sign "I'm火星人アイムかせいじん" ("I'm a Martian") on Metabee was removed.
  • A Medal transition was replaced by a slow fadeout.
  • The Medal transition from the alien researcher to the scene with Squidguts was cut.
  • The scenes showing Squidguts alone had some parts reduced or cut, the suspense music was removed, and there are different and new dialogues in the dub, like a password to enter the gang's hideout and a dirty joke.
  • The closeup on the 石川 (Ishikawa) nameplate was cut.
  • The Japanese graffiti from the Rubberobo Gang was cut, with only the incomplete English "Robor" (their Japanese name, Roborobo Gang) being shown.
  • Some of the "alien merchandise" was cut, possibly to hide their Japanese texts.
  • The UFO scene was shortened a bit.
  • The first appearance of the ようこそ宇宙人 ("Welcome aliens") banner was cut.
  • A small part from the scene where the Rubberobo Gang appears to the public was cut.
  • The cigarette in the chick seller's mouth was removed.
  • Erika's menacing face and the Rubberobo Gang's reaction to her were cut.
  • In the original a narrator explains to the viewers what happens to those who break the rules, while in the dub Mr. Referee explained it to everyone present in the area in a menacing way.
  • The duration of Metabee's shrug in the end was extended.

Erika: "You're not seeing the big picture." (...) "I know you see the Rubberobo aliens as big ugly weirdos. Yes sir, ugly, and yes, they're kind of weird, but they probably think the same thing about you. You're not seeing the big picture here. Those keychains are a symbol, a tiny reminder of their unending love for humanity."
Ikki: "She's lost it."
-Erika talking about the aliens in the dub.

Arika: "Ikki... Earth is lonely." (...) "In a corner of the vast universe, we were so lonely, but they showed up and encountered us. Screw prudence, I believe in aliens."
Ikki: "Arika..."
-A rough translation of the same dialogue in the original Japanese.

Erika: "I don't believe it. The Rubberobos tricked me..."
Chick seller: "You're troubled child. Everyone makes mistakes, you know. But unless you face your mistakes, you will never move on. You must learn from your mistakes."
Erika: "Listen pal, I didn't make a mistake, those so-called aliens did, by messing with my head. I mean, who do those Rubberobos think they are anyway?"
Chick seller: "Well.. I..."
Erika: "Learn from your mistakes? I'll make them learn from their mistakes big time!"
Chick seller: "Yeah?"
Erika: "You better believe it! Time to go back and kick some big alien butt!"
Chick seller: "Erm... Glad I could help you..."
