Taking the Victor Out of Victory is the forty-ninth episode from the Medabots anime.

Content[]

Summary[]

In the finals, Miss Caviar appears before Ikki and Koji as Space Medafighter X. Everyone, with each other's feelings in mind, are fired up. Now, it's time to start the Robattle against Victor and his partners!

Plot[]

It is the final match of the World Robattle Cup, and the site is crowded with people. Miss Caviar makes her grand entrance as Space Medafighter X, and to Seaslug's shock, she makes a deal with him... If Team Japan wins, Seaslug will leave the Rubberobo Gang, however, if Japan is defeated, Ms. Caviar will join the Rubberobos. She isn't worried, as she has Belzelga by her side.

A confident Team Kenya enters, and soon the Robattle is underway. Ikki has Metabee and Sumilidon get in Kenya's faces while Belzelga hangs back to scope out the moves. Metabee and Sumilidon are taking excessive damage from Rhinorush and Goriongo, while Warbandit has yet to move. Dr. Aki recognizes this as "The Power Leech", which allows Warbandit to remain idle while feeding his power to the team's other bots. The Medabots will receive a boost in energy, making them faster and more agile. Meanwhile, Warbandit will feel very little, leaving him fresh when it is his turn to fight.

It doesn't look good for Team Japan until Ms. Caviar lets Belzelga take the lead. Belzelga deliberately misses it's targets in order to carve up the arena floor to slow down Team Kenya's attacks. It's helping, but Metabee and Sumilidon are still taking hits. Warbandit's speed boost helped in an attack that left Metabee's seeker missile unit off-line. Sumilidon's sword received damage as well. Ikki is losing hope when miraculously Belzelga uses the regenerating ability from his head to restore power to the team.

Angered, Victor initiates Plan B. Goriongo is sacrificed in order to take out Belzelga. Everyone is shocked that Victor would sacrifice one of his team Medabots, but Victor has no qualms about it due to how he sees Medabots. This act angered Sumilidon, causing him to tap into the Medaforce, but Rhinorush was used as a shield to protect Warbandit. Warbandit's speed allows him to easily take down Sumilidon. Only Warbandit and Metabee remains on the arena.

After several hits, a blast from Warbandit sends Metabee flying into the ground in a critical state. Ikki's Medawatch breaks down, and the small blast causes Ikki to also go down. Victor claims that it is over, but a stunned audience watches as Ikki and Metabee stand up, continuing their link even without the Medawatch. Their bond causes Metabee to tap into the Medaforce to finish the battle. Victor simply laughs, and suddenly, Warbandit taps into the Medaforce as well. A blinding light emits as both bots send out their powerful forces at one another. Who will win this incredible Robattle?

Trivia[]

  • During the conversation between Miss Mimosa and Seaslug, in one scene Squidguts's skin is darker and the chairs have a different color.
  • In the dub, this is the last episode with the World Robattle Cup stats screens.

English dub changes[]

Anime episode 49 arena

Medarot texts in the arena.

  • This episode has several dialogue changes, and some characters are more verbose. Only the more notable examples are listed below.
  • In the original, the only sounds in the beginning are a blast, the wind blowing, a clock ticking, and one of the members from Team Kenya saying that it's almost time. The dub added thoughts for Victor: "They'll never beg to understand why I Robattle so ruthlessly. Nothing in life comes safely. That's a lesson those children need to learn. The past doesn't rest easier, neither do I. Come on, snap out of it. It's time to regain some focus. Remember the championship."
  • Likewise, in the original there are no voices in the following part showing the site and the bathroom until Metabee says "let's go", but the dub added Ikki's thoughts about how nervous he is, to the point of Ikki having a queasy stomach, feeling as sick as a dog in the public washroom. Ikki then tries to think about the thousand of people waiting outside, but it makes him nervous and he thinks he should not have thought about all the people outside. But it was too late to back off, and Ikki feels relieved when he thinks that he and Metabee are an unbeatable team.
  • Three scenes from the part Mr. Referee is sitting in the auditorium were cut.
    • In the original, Mr. Referee went to the auditorium seating because he wondered what it was like to look at a Robattle from the same perspective as the public, and he reflects about the new Medal rule, saying that he dislikes that the winner can take the loser's Medal as he loves Medabots. He enjoyed seeing the growth of Ikki and Metabee since their first Robattle, feeling that their way of Robattling is the ideal way. While leaving, he says he is proud to be an official referee, and will never quit (despite being discontent with the new rule, but as things get worse in the next episode, he says he can't stand it and quits). Karin wishes him luck on his job.
    • In the dub, Mr. Referee's dialogue was shortened by saying that he went to the auditorium to cool down a bit before the match, and he wondered where the popcorn vendor was. As no vendor showed up, before leaving he requested Dr. Aki to get him a popcorn with extra butter. Karin wishes him luck with the match.
  • Erika gained an extra line in a part without voices.
  • The Medarot texts in the sides of the arena's floor were removed.
  • When Team Japan arrives, in the original Koji says that this is it, and Ikki wonders where Space Medafighter X is. In the dub, Koji asks if Ikki is ready, and Ikki says "Yep. How about you? Did you remember to go to the bathroom?", despite Koji being seen with Ikki and Metabee in the bathroom earlier.
  • In the end of the deal between Miss Mimosa and Seaslug, in the dub Miss Mimosa asks if she will have to wear the Rubberobo's "stupid suit", and Seaslug says "of course".
  • In the original, Dr. Aki is concerned with Miss Mimosa, considering her decision reckless. In the dub, Dr. Aki is concerned about Miss Mimosa leaving with all the work that is left to be done in the lab.
  • A fadeout was added in the scene after Miss Mimosa revealed that her Medabot will be Belzelga.
  • Dialogue between Erika and Karin was added when Team Kenya arrives, with Karin wondering if Ikki can defeat Victor, and Erika saying that he better be, or else Miss Caviar will have to wear a rubber suit.
  • Thoughts were added to Ikki when he was staring Victor. Ikki knows Victor will be his greatest opponent, and while Victor thinks he is better, unlike Victor, he would never sell his soul to the Rubberobo Gang.
  • Ikki's flashback of the conversation he had with Victor in the previous episode was shortened, being resumed by Victor saying that Ikki would never be able to understand him. In the original, this is the part Victor calls Ikki a spoiled brat with a kind mother, with no worries about food, and surrounded by entertainment such as comics and toys.
  • The movement of the camera when the match is about to begin was sped up, and instead of Mr. Referee, an announcer makes the presentation.
  • In the dub, the view of the audience before the match was moved, appearing after the World Robattle Cup stats screens, and the announcer comments about the audience being rigid, either due to the anticipation or due to bad seats.
  • The order the Medafighters and Medabots from Team Kenya and Team Japan appear was rearranged for the addition of the final WRC stats screens. In the original, the Medafighters from each team is shown first, then their Medabots. In the dub, the order is the Medabots and Medafighters from Team Kenya, then from Team Japan.
Anime Metabee Medarotch critical

Metabee's Medawatch screen.

  • In Metabee's Medawatch screen, the name of his parts were replaced by Missiles, Right Arm, Left Arm, and Main Servo. The texts in the bottom, "Revolver damaged 78pt" and "Danger!", were replaced by "Right Arm 78% damage".
    • The second time Metabee's screen is shown, the lower texts "Missile damaged 90pt" and "Discharge impossible" were replaced by "Head assembly 90% damage" and "Seeker computer offline".
    • In the third time, the texts "All parts damaged 70-81pt" and "Danger!" were replaced by "All parts 70% to 81% damage".
    • The fourth time was cut, its texts being "All parts damaged 93-99pt", "Augment hazard ratio" and "Exceed threshold".
    • In the last view, the texts "Augment hazard ratio" and "Exceed threshold" were replaced by "Approaching critical overload" and "Caution", and the Left Arm and Right Arm were swapped.
  • In Sumilidon's Medawatch screen, the name of his parts were replaced by Sharp Edge, Flexor Sword, and Hammer, and his Japanese name, Smilodonod, was replaced by his English name. The lower texts "Straw Hammer damaged 83pt" and "Danger!" were replaced by "Left Arm 83% damage".
    • The second time Sumilidon's screen is shown, the lower texts "Sharp Edge destruction" and "Out of control" were replaced by ""Leg assemblies 100% damage".
    • In the final appearances, the texts "All parts destruction" and "Out of control" were replaced by "All parts 99% damage" and "Systems critical" in the third time, and "Function ceased" in the fourth time.
  • Dr. Aki's explanation about Warbandit's head part changed:
    • In the original, Dr. Aki informs about Warbandit's head part, Tension Up, which is giving a boost to his teammates, and that they are moving in a carefully calculated formation to receive Warbandit's boost at the right time. Due to the increased speed, their attack power also increased, making the battle harder for Team Japan.
    • In the dub, Dr. Aki says that Team Kenya is executing a very advanced Robattle technique called the "Power Leech", with Warbandit remaining idle to feed his power to his teammates, making them move faster and more agile, while Warbandit "feels a small tickle and a small sense of regret", and consequently Warbandit will be as fresh as a daisy when his turn to fight comes up. The last scene from the explanation had its duration shortened a bit.
Anime Screws episode 49 B

Samantha hitting Spyke.

  • In the dub, Ikki says "You think you have won, Victor? This Robattle isn't over yet.". In the original, Ikki is thinking why Warbandit has not done a move yet, and wonders what Victor is thinking, and the scene is followed by the commercial break, which has a different sound from the usual.
  • The part with Samantha strangling and punching Spyke was cut. In this part Sloan comments about Team Japan being in disadvantage despite being 3 against 2. Samantha screams with Team Japan, and Spyke cries due to what Samantha is doing with him.
  • In the original, Ikki thinks about how Team Kenya's strength was completely different from the exhibition match, and starts to feel nervous. In the dub, Ikki remembers how he bragged in front of everybody that he could defeat Victor, but now was in a bad situation, and tries to stay focused as he has the hopes from the world on his shoulders.
  • In the dub, Dr. Aki comments that he is the one that taught Miss Caviar the tactic she was using. In the original, Dr. Aki's explanation about the tactic is more detailed.
    • A fadeout was added after this scene.
    • After the fadeout, a view of the Medadome's exterior and a repeat of the explanation scene were added.
Anime Gori-On-Go Medarotch

Goriongo's Medawatch screen.

Anime Rhino-Rush Medarotch

Rhinorush's Medawatch screen.

  • In Goriongo's Medawatch screen, the name of his parts, Gori-Road, Go Funk, Go Dunk, and Gori-Roader, were respectively replaced by Head, Right Arm, Left Arm, and Wheels (plural, despite having only one wheel). The lower texts "Go Dunk destruction" and "Out of control" were replaced by "Left Arm 100% damage". Of note, while his name is written as Goriongo in English, it is written as Gori-On-Go in the Medawatch screen in both versions.
  • In Rhinorush's Medawatch screen, his parts, Rhinorn, Sai-Gon-Gon, Sai-Burn, and Jaguar Naught (a mistranslation of Juggernaut), were respectively replaced by Head, Right Arm, Left Arm, and Wheels. The lower texts "Rhinorn damaged 90pt", "Danger!", and "Range of operation d" (the scene ending before "down" is completed) were replaced by "Head assembly 43% damage". Like Goriongo, Rhinorush's name is written as Rhino-Rush in the Medawatch screen in both versions.
  • The scene with Warbandit shooting Metabee's face was cut.
  • The part Warbandit grabs Sumilidon and shots his legs at point-blank was cut. As such, in the dub it is unclear why Sumilidon's Medawatch showed that his legs got damaged.
  • A view of Sumilidon's jagged body was cut.
  • A fadeout was added after Sumilidon goes down. Afterwards, another view of the Medadome's exterior was added, and Victor says "two down and one to go", and Ikki repeats part of Victor's line.
  • In the original, Victor's thought before his memory of the Ten Days of Darkness is that he refuses to lose to idiots that insist that Medabots are friends. The dub added Victor's opinion about Medabots during his flashback, considering his Robattle with Ikki a silly game, specially due to the real sorrow he suffered, thinking that Medabots cannot feel sorrow or fear like the people they attacked, seeing them only as destructive machines that blindly follow orders, regardless of what transpires, not seeing them as cute or friendly like the majority, and that he has no happy memories with them.
  • After Victor's flashback, a scene of Metabee being hit and the fourth view of his Medawatch screen were cut.
  • One of the scenes with Metabee getting hit was cut.
  • The repeat of Warbandit pushing Metabee through a rock was cut, showing the scene only once.
  • Ikki lying on the ground after his Medawatch broke had its duration shortened a bit.
  • In the part Victor says "It's over." in the original, he says "This battle is over. Be thankful that I spared your Medabot. Next time you won't be so lucky.". As Victor starts to leave afterwards, this quote could be misinterpreted as Victor fully sparing Metabee, including the Medal as he says "next time", but he is only referring to the parts, as the other Medabots in the arena were broken.
  • The scene Mr. Referee has a jubilant look at Metabee and looks around to find who is laughing was shortened, with him looking straight to Victor.
  • After Ikki and Metabee stand up, connected despite losing the Medawatch, Victor's lines are quite different:
    • In the original, Victor simply laughs maniacally. Nervous, Koji only says Victor's name, and Ikki asks why he was laughing. Victor says that this is the first time anyone was able to push him so far, and as he says Warbandit's name, Warbandit silently prepares to use the Medaforce. Victor says Medabots lack blood and tears, and he will definitely finish Ikki's Medabot without compassion.
    • In the dub, Victor laughs defiantly and taunts the duo, finding it funny that they continue fighting despite losing the Medawatch, being too damaged, and having no hope to defeat him, calling it a riot, and mocking asks if they want to Robattle blindfolded too. After Ikki comments on Koji saying that Victor got crazy, Victor says that they're too much, and if they want to be completely humiliated, it will be his pleasure. Warbandit does a menacing laugh as he prepares to use the Medaforce. Victor then says that this is not a game for him, and that Ikki was about to lose his Medabot.
  • The message "to be continued" was added in the end of the episode.
