The Old Man and the Sea Monster is the fifth episode of the Medabots anime. It first aired in the United States on Fox Kids on September 22, 2001.

Ikki and Metabee Robattle a Shark-Type Medabot at the beach.[1]
Plot[]
Ikki, Metabee, Erika, Salty, and Jouzou go have fun at the beach for some days, but Metabee is annoyed that he can't swim, and three boys appear to annoy him. While in the beach's hut, they hear rumors about a monster lurking on the beach, three bathers describing it as a sea goblin, a giant sea snake, or a dinosaur. Erika decides to investigate, taking Ikki and Metabee with her, but all they find an old man skillfully fishing with his Medabot. The three boys reappear, and Ikki gets in a Robattle against Ryota's Sharkkan, but Metabee loses the match due to getting seasick and unable to continue.
As Metabee lost his legs, he has to use the legs obtained from Banisher in Return of the Screws. Ikki and Metabee have the idea to ask the old man for aquatic parts, and he gives an old spare pair of legs from his Tentaclam. Despite having aquatic legs, Metabee still gets dizzy on the water and can't swim, and they request the old man to train them so they can defeat the boys. The old man says that the boys are not a problem for them, but the sea, and agrees to train them, but warns that he will not take it easy. They agree and start a harsh training.
While Ikki and Metabee are taking a break, Erika finds the rumored monster on the beach and asks for help, but it turns out to be the Medabots from the three kids in a disguise. Although their training is not complete, Ikki and Metabee challenge the kids for a rematch. Thanks to the training and Tentaclam's legs, Metabee is able to buoy in the water without getting dizzy, but as he hasn't learned how to swim yet, he can't leave his position. Despite the setback, Metabee is able to win and he recovers his legs. The boys explain that the reason they were scarying the tourist was to stop them from throwing garbage at the beach. They apologize for what they did and befriend Ikki. Meanwhile, Jouzou has overslept in the beach and is sunburned.

- Octoclam and Tentaclam is the name of two different Medabots in the games, but in the anime they were both used for Octoclam.

Metabee lost his first Robattle and lost his legs. The old man gives Tentaclam's legs to Ikki and train him and Metabee, and Metabee is able to recover his legs in a revenge.

- Several scenes had their duration shortened a bit, specially in still parts.
- Ikki and Erika playing in the water was cut.
- A scene with Metabee in the beach moves slightly faster in the dub.

- A fadeout was added after Erika pulls Ikki.
