The Spy Who Robattled Me is the twenty-first (fourteenth in the English dub) episode of the Medabots anime.

Content[]

Summary[]

Ex-Rubberobo Gang leader, Seaslug infiltrates the Medabots Corporation under the name Mr. Tunahead to steal any Rare Medals along with any secrets or prototypes that the corporation might have.[1]

Plot[]

Ikki, Metabee, Erika, Brass, Karin and Neutranurse go with Dr. Aki on a tour in the Medabot Corporation. During the tour, Metabee bumps into Mr. Tunahead (who is actually Seaslug disguised) and gets mad at him even though he doesn't recognize him. Mr. Tunahead runs in an attempt to preserve his identity and meets Miss Caviar, a very pretty and sweet worker, and ends up falling for her. The kids are shown a new Medabot model, Belzelga, that's to be Ms. Caviar's Medabot, and watch a demonstration of its power that leaves them with their chins touching the ground. At the end of the demo, Metabee meets up with Mr. Tunahead again and demands an apology from him. But what he gets is a huge shock from one of the workers that ceases his function. The workers don't recognize him as a visiter, and bring his body to a room that was off-limits before.

Belzelga

Brass notices Metabee's disappearance, and Ikki decides to go find him. Mr. Tunahead is offered a delicious lunch made by Ms. Caviar and warms up to the point of deciding to quit the Rubberobos and ask her out. But when he tries to do so, he listens to a conversation between another worker and her, and misunderstands it, thinking those two will go out on a date, which breaks his heart.

Metabee wakes up in the room filled with tubes containing the Rare Medals, when he sees Mr. Tunahead trying to steal Belzelga, recognizes him as Seaslug and chases him. Ikki runs up to the door of the aforementioned room and is prevented to open it by Dr. Aki stating that there are secrets he shouldn't know about the Medabots. An alarm rings, alerting about the presence of the intruder and Ikki tries to comunicate with Metabee, getting a confirmation from him that he's running after the thief.

Love

The chase ends on the roof, with Mr. Tunahead trying to send Belzelga's Medal to Dr. Meta-Evil, but the latter tells him that is not a Rare Medal and leaves. Ms. Caviar tries to talk to Tunahead, making him angrily reveal his real identity: Seaslug from the Rubberobos. He then orders Belzelga to attack, starting a Robattle. Mr. Referee though, was prevented from entering the building by a guard.

Belzelga hits Metabee and destroys his left arm with only one hit. Ikki then states that if he gets a direct hit, they'd lose the battle. Belzelga strikes again, destroying Metabee's legs and Brass' left arm, and when he's about to finish Brass off, Neutranurse uses her Neutra Wall to hold off the attack.

Oh dear!

Brass jumps on Belzelga's head and runs, drawing his attention to her. When they see Belzelga climbing a ladder from a water tower, going after Brass, Ikki tells Metabee to use his Seeker Missiles to damage him and make him fall from the bulding. The water tower explodes and they all cheer up thinking they got him, but then he grabs Brass' leg and pulls her along with him.

After all the water is gone, they are able to see Brass hanging at the edge of the building with Belzelga still holding her leg. Brass' grip gives in, but Metabee is able to catch her just in time and uses his missiles once more to make Belzelga let go of Brass. The Medabot falls and his function ceases, making Team Metabee victorious.

Ms. Caviar tries one last time to talk to Seaslug, but he leaves, telling her to have a good date. She then tells him it was a misunderstanding, that the worker was just going to give her a lift to Tunahead's welcome party, but he can't listen because he's too far, and says goodbye. She collapses on the ground crying, saying that she like him.

The episode ends with Dr. Aki inside the room of the Rare Medals talking to the Phantom Renegade, telling him they'll need his help to protect the Medals from the Rubberobos.

Trivia[]

  • One part from Neutranurse's head was miscolored in the scenes Erika meets Dr. Aki.

Background[]

English dub changes[]

Anime Medabot Corporation

Full view of the Medabot Corporation building.

Anime Sailor-Multi Medarotch

Sailor-Multi's Medawatch details.

  • The dub has a few extra lines not present in the original, like Mr. Tunahead's "That Miss Caviar is quite a dish".
  • Most scenes with "Medarot" texts were removed, with only a few being editted to show "Medabot".
  • In the Japanese version Metabee thinks that Karin's letter is a fake, believing someone wanted to fool Ikki. The English dub added XOXO to Karin's letter, and Metabee assumes it meant Karin only wanted to play tic-tac-toe with him, not have a date.
  • Ikki's reaction when he spotted Erika was shortened, and him sighing was cut.
  • The full view of the Medabot Corporation and its surroundings was cut, likely due to Medarot text.
  • One scene with the security guards was cut, likely due to the Medarot text behind them.
  • A Medal transition was replaced by a fadeout.
  • The close up showing Mr. Tunahead's shades wben he contemplates that he used to be the Rubberobo Gang's leader but is now only a henchman was cut. A similar dialogue ("To think that I used to command him...") was included in the previous scene, where he silently turned off the phone in the original.
  • M Alloy is said to be short for Medabot Alloy in the dub.
  • In the original, Karin and Dr. Aki mention that Koji could not go in the tour with them because he was still recovering from the trauma he suffered with the insects in the previous episode. In the dub Karin thanks her uncle for the tour, and he says that is no problem for him.
  • The duration of Mr. Tunahead thinking about the welcome party was shortened.
  • The eyecatches were replaced by a fadeout.
  • Belzelga gained a few lines in the dub. He is silent in the original.
  • The scene where Metabee is looking Mr. Tunahead was shortened a bit, cutting the part where Mr. Tunahead thinks Metabee may have found him out, and the following dialogue is different. In the original Metabee did not recognize him as the one who hit him before, instead calling one of the staff members (Mr. Tunahead) to ask for a Robattle to show what he can do as Belzelga stole his spotlight.
  • The part where the narrator explains that Mr. Tunahead is feeling confused was cut.
  • Mr. Tunahead's quote, "It's just that no one ever made me lunch before. Well, except my mom. She was great! She gave me those huge lunch bags that said 'dog food'.", is roughly "In my 27 years of life, I've never felt so much kindness from someone!" in the original. Besides the lack of gentleness on his life, the former implies that Seaslug was poor when he was younger, while the latter revealed his age (assuming he did not give a fake age like his identity).
  • The dialogue with Corky is different between the dub and the original.
  • The scenes where Mr. Tunahead is feeling cold and starts crying were cut.
  • When Mr. Tunahead is stealing Belzelga, in the dub Metabee recognized him as one of the members of the Rubberobo Gang. Metabee does not recognize him in the original. A fadeout was added after this scene in the dub.
  • A close view of the "Medarot" logo on a door was cut.
  • The camera does not move in the scene the Rubberobo Gang leader sends a beam of light to verify the Medal, possibly due to the translated Medabot text in the building.
  • Miss Caviar shaking her head was cut, and in the original she promises that no one will file a complaint if he returns Belzelga. In the dub she says that everything will be alright after he sorts it out with the security guys, the police, and the court.
  • The pause before Ikki realizes Mr. Referee did not appear was removed.
  • The Medarot text in the door in front of Mr. Referee was removed.
  • The Medawatch details were changed:
    • On Ikki's Medawatch, the name of Metabee's parts were replaced by Main Servo, Right Arm, Left Arm and Reserves.
    • On Erika's Medawatch, the name of Sailor Multi's parts, Variable Hair, Patery Vulcan, Short Shot and Flare Gather, were replaced by Lasers, Right Arm, Left Arm and Flares.
    • On both, two of the three Medawatch screen appearances only had one line below in the original ("Sub Machine-Gun Destruction" / "Short Shot Destruction"), while the dub has two ("Left Arm Damaged" and "Function Ceased"). In the second appearance of Metabee's screen, in the original the previous text is still visible when "Ochitsuker Destruction" appears, and they were replaced by "Legs Damaged" and "Function Ceased" in the dub.
  • Neutranurse's Holy Wall was renamed Neutra Wall.
  • When Miss Caviar tries to explain the misunderstanding to Seaslug, in the original she says that the encounter was with a cat, not a person, while in the dub she says Conker was only going to give her a ride.
  • While Miss Caviar is crying over the departure of Mr. Tunahead, Metabee says "Ikki, get in there! Catch her on the rebound!" in the dub. He says nothing in the original. The following scene showing a corridor inside the building was cut.
  • The last scene was extended to give time for the narrator to talk: "The Phantom Renegade is in the Medabot Corporation with Doctor Aki!? Who'd've thought that up? Tune in next time on Medabots!"
