Summary[]

Kam orders Eddie to dispose of Blakbeetle after she was defeated by Arc-Dash. However, Eddie advised to give Blakbeetle another chance. Kam decides to let her fight Metabee on the condition that she will be dismantled if she loses.

Plot[]

The episode starts in the middle of a Robattle between Ginkai's Arc-Dash and Kam's Blakbeetle. Arc-Dash is in disadvantage, having over 90% damage to the head part, but Ginkai comes up with a plan and they manage to win. Later, in Kam's home, Kam says he is disappointed with Blakbeetle's defeat, blaming her for his defeat, but Blakbeetle asks if they are not a team, which makes both of them responsible for the defeat, noting that Ginkai and Arc-Dash won as a team. Kam disagrees, saying that Ginkai and Arc-Dash, as well as Ikki and Metabee, are fools for relying on each other, believing that a Medafighter must not have emotional attachments with their machine so they will not become sad when it is time to get rid of it. Kam then orders Eddie to dispose of Blakbeetle, but Eddie advises Kam to reconsider and give Blakbeetle another chance, which he reluctantly agrees by warning Blakbeetle that this will be her last chance.

Later, Kam and Blakbeetle challenge Ikki and Metabee to a Robattle when they were about to give Robattle lessons to Tak and other kids, with Blakbeetle saying that the best way to learn how to Robattle is in combat. Blakbeetle is determined to win, giving her best while Kam only watches, and manages to do over 90% damage to Metabee, but despite being stronger, in the end Metabee manages to win by following Ikki's instructions.

Having enough of Blakbeetle's failures, Kam shuts her down and considers his experiment of giving emotions to a Kilobot a failure. Kam orders Eddie to dispose of her, and Eddie asks if he is sure about that, asking if he did not give emotions to a Kilobot to have a friend, but Kam considers the idea ridiculous, saying that Blakbeetle is just a machine. Before she is sent to be scrapped in Extreme Tech's waste disposal building, Eddie places her Medal back on her body, setting her to activate again after some time. Blakbeetle reactivates in time to notice she was about to be chopped by a large blade. Blakbeetle tries to avoid it, but the blade still damaged her. Blakbeetle is surprised to be still functional, and sees this as a chance to prove to Kam that she can still defeat Metabee, seeking for her opponent.

Eddie was waiting for Blakbeetle outside the scrapping facility, and he explains what he did. Eddie laments for everything that Blakbeetle passed, but he believes that she has the potential to become Kam's friend, and should forget about Metabee for the time being. Blakbeetle disagrees because Kam would not accept her back until she defeats Metabee, which she must do. Eddie tells her to suit herself, but advises her to not try fighting against Metabee until she is repaired. Blakbeetle is not sure about what she should do, as her chances of winning against Metabee while injured are lower, but decides to seek her opponent.

In Nae's shop, Nae is examining the damage caused by Blakbeetle in their earlier Robattle, noting that Metabee's power modulator needs to be replaced as soon as possible, but she has a spare one and can do it right away. Before Nae starts, Blakbeetle appears to challenge Metabee, but she can barely stand due to her pain. Nae examines Blakbeetle and sees that her power modulator is severely damaged, and she needs help urgently. Ikki and Metabee ask why Nae would help Blakbeetle, as she showed up wanting to fight with them, but Nae asks if they would not like to be helped if they were in a similar condition, leaving them speechless. Nae also says that currently she only has one spare part, and asks if it is okay to use the part she was going to use on Metabee to repair Blakbeetle, with Metabee agreeing due to her damage being more severe, and he only needs to avoid Robattling until Nae gets a new part. Blakbeetle dislikes the idea of being helped by her enemy, asking Metabee why he would help his rival, and Metabee says that if she wishes, they continue their rivalry and Robattle again after she gets better.

At night, Eddie informs Kam that he was careless when he disposed of Blakbeetle, and Blakbeetle is now on the run. Eddie notes that they underestimated Blakbeetle's determination, saying that she is still feisty despite sustaining heavy damage and the trauma of being rejected by her master.

Back to Nae's shop, Nae finished Blakbeetle's repairs, with Blakbeetle no longer feeling pain. However, Nae notes that the part she used is only similar to the one she had, and Blakbeetle should take it easy until her own mechanic does the proper repairs. Blakbeetle mocks them, calling them fools for saving an enemy instead of deactivating her for good when they had the chance. Metabee says that it does not matter Kam taught her, but for them, leaving her in the condition she was would be gut-wrenching. Blakbeetle does not understand the term, and Metabee explains that it is a feeling in the gut someone feels when doing something wrong, asking if Blakbeetle ever felt that, and Blakbeetle says she is not programmed with non-vital functions.

Nae tries to explain to Blakbeetle that she is not simply a machine, that like Metabee, she has feelings. She may have seeked Metabee to complete the order given by Kam, but instead of blindly following Kam's order and fighting when not in condition until the bitter end, she allowed them to help her. Blakbeetle rejects the idea of having feelings, saying that she is a Kilobot and may have only allowed that to ensure her survival. Nae says that it may be difficult for her to accept it, but she does have emotions. Angry, Blakbeetle attacks Metabee, calling them liars that are trying to turn her against her master, and Blakbeetle remembers her fight against several copies of herself, saying that she must fight to survive.

Nae reminds Blakbeetle that both she and Metabee are not in condition to Robattle, and the repairs done are temporary, as Metabee gave the part that was supposed to be used on him for Blakbeetle. As steam starts coming out from Metabee and Metabee is not fighting back, Blakbeetle feels a disconfort in her replaced part and remembers what they said and did for her, and stops. Blakbeetle says that she achieved her survival, so further battle is unnecessary, and leaves. Kam finds Blakbeetle shortly afterwards, and he says that she proven her Medal, accepting her back. However, Blakbeetle feels something strange, believing that it must be the "gut-wrenching" feeling that Metabee had mentioned.

Medabots Spirit Metabee defeats Blakbeetle

Metabee defeats Blakbeetle.

  • The first scene with Kam was shortened a bit, and a scene that appears later was added after it, possibly to have Blakbeetle closer to the screen for the addition of her stats screen.
  • The text 導電樹脂 ("conductive resin") from the packs in the construction yard was translated as "powdered sugar", and related dialogues changed. Besides creating a smoke screen that blinded Blakbeetle, in the original it was mentioned that it also caused interference to her sensors.
  • The name from Arc-Dash's head part, Appendix, was renamed as an attack called "Ion Pulse".
  • In Kam's home, after Kam mentioned he was disappointed with Blakbeetle's defeat:
    • In the dub, Blakbeetle says that they lost together as a team, with Kam also being responsible for the loss, and Ginkai and Arc-Dash won because they were a team. Kam disagrees, saying that Ginkai and Arc-Dash, as well as Ikki and Metabee, are fools for relying on each other, believing that when it comes to Robattling, one must be void of all emotion, so they will not be sad when it is time to get rid of their pet. Kam then asks Eddie to get rid of Blakbeetle, saying he needs a Kilobot that can keep its opinions to itself, and as she can't even beat Ginkai, she will have no chance against Ikki. Blakbeetle requests another chance, and Eddie asks Kam to reconsider, saying that Blakbeetle is a loyal servant and deserves a second chance. Kam says that a Kilobot that cannot win is a waste of storage space, but reluctantly agrees by warning Blakbeetle that this will be her last chance.
    • In the original, Blakbeetle said it was not her fault that Ginkai and Arc-Dash could come up with unpredictable strategies that were not present in battle simulations. Kam agrees, noting that Ikki and Metabee are also like that. There are no lines in the part showing scenes from I, Kilobot and the earlier Robattle against Ginkai. Kam also notes that Ginkai fights that way due to Ikki's influence, and then says he no longer needs Blakbeetle. Kam asks Eddie to get rid of Blakbeetle, noting that if she can't even beat Ginkai, she will have no chance against Ikki, and Blakbeetle begs for another chance. Eddie tells Kam that Blakbeetle has pride, and being simply disposed without fighting would be no good for her. Kam wonders if Blakbeetle's emotional circuits may bring out extra abilities, and decides to give her a chance, but warns Blakbeetle that this will be her last chance.
  • When Ikki and Metabee appear in the school:
    • In the dub, Ikki asks Tak what he and his friends are doing, and Tak tells Ikki that they are playing. Before Tak explains the game, Ikki says he is not good at dancing, but is good at Robattling. Metabee then asks the kids if they want to learn how to be good at Robattles like Ikki and him. When Blakbeetle appears, she says they should stick with dancing instead or practicing, telling them to forget practicing as the only way to truly learn how to Robattle is through combat. Metabee asks where Kam is, as it is unlikely that she came alone, and Kam appears saying that he is never too far away from her. Ikki says he is surprised to see Kam in the sun, asking if he is wearing sunblock, and Kam tells Ikki to nevermind him before challenging Ikki.
    • In the original, Ikki apologizes for being late, and Tak says that is not a problem, thanking Ikki and Metabee for training them. Ikki says that it is natural for senior Medafighters to train junior Medafighters, and Metabee notes that the more they train, the more fun their Robattles will be. When Blakbeetle appears, she asks what they can learn with practice, as a fight is a life or death situation, and one can only become strong by overcoming the fear of dying after the first combat. Metabee asks if Blakbeetle is satisfied with that, as the only one who is happy when she wins is Kam, asking what she thinks. Kam appears and says that as long as a Kilobot can win, it is fine, and Blakbeetle's opinion does not matter. Ikki says that Robattles like that are not interesting, and Kam challenges Ikki.
  • An eyecatch was added before the Robattle between Blakbeetle and Metabee started.
    • The scene with Blakbeetle's first attack was split in three scenes with some changes:
      • The first and second scene appear between the eyecatch, both ending before Blakbeetle started attacking. The scenes are similar, but have different dialogues.
      • After the second scene, another scene repeats with different dialogue, and the third scene appears, only showing Blakbeetle attacking.
  • In the dub, Kam says he is impressed and that his faith in Blakbeetle was restored. In the original, Kam tells Blakbeetle she is doing a good job and asks to show her pride.
  • Ikki's mention of Blakbeetle being unable to dodge the attacks at a very close range was omitted.
  • After Blakbeetle falls on the ground and Kam says he had enough of her, saying it is over for her, the following scenes from the Robattle were cut, skipping to Blakbeetle being offline in Kam's home. In the original, Blakbeetle is unwilling to admit defeat, as that would be her doom. Blakbeetle runs to the kids and takes Komandog as hostage, telling Metabee that she cannot afford to lose, and Kam is pleased with what he sees. Ikki and Metabee get nervous, wondering what to do, and Ikki toggles through several functions from his Medawatch to see a map of the area. Ikki tells Metabee that they are going to lose, and tells Metabee to run away to the right as fast as he can. After Metabee ran a bit, Ikki tells Metabee to attack at the coordinates he gave. Metabee's shots ricochet and hit Blakbeetle from behind, making her release Komandog. As those were the last bullets, Ikki tells Metabee to finish Blakbeetle with a kick, and Blakbeetle is knocked down. Blakbeetle is very upset with Metabee, and her function ceases. Kam smirks.
  • As part of the Robattle between Metabee and Blakbeetle was cut, the eyecatch in the middle of the episode was moved. In the original it appears after Blakbeetle's defeat, while in the dub it appears while Blakbeetle is leaving the waste disposal facility.
  • In the dub, Kam says that it was a valiant effort to install an emotion chip into Blakbeetle's system in an attempt to win, but the experiment has failed. In the original, Kam says that Blakbeetle was given emotions in order to evoke the power that cannot be expressed in numbers, but in the end it was senseless.
  • Before Blakbeetle reactivates, in the dub she remembers Kam saying that one must be without emotions when it is time to get hid of his pet, while in the original she remembers Kam saying that she was created to defeat Medabots, but if she cannot defeat Metabee, he does not need her.
  • When Blakbeetle remembers Metabee while awakening, Blakbeetle calls for Kam in the dub, and she is angry with Metabee in the original.
  • In the dub, Eddie says he placed a "time activated Medal" inside Blakbeetle. In the original, Eddie said that he used a "timed movement system" instead.
  • Eddie's mention of Blakbeetle being unable to Robattle properly without the master and that she can find Metabee in the junk shop in Ginjou Town were omitted.
  • Some lines in Nae's shop changed. For example, in the dub, Ikki and Metabee talked about Kam apparently disposing Blakbeetle, while in the original, they talked about Blakbeetle's abilities, with her being strong but prone to making mistakes.
  • When Nae explains the risk of the power modulator malfunctions, in the original, Nae says that it could end up burning the Medal, while in the dub, Nae says that a screw could loosen around the bracket holding the Medal in place. The dub reduced the severity of Metabee's condition, as in the original it is downright stated that the Medal could be badly damaged, while in the dub its severity can be interpreted in different ways, such as the Medal simply falling down (which could result in it going missing if not seen), or causing a bad connection between the Medal and body (which could potentially cause data corruption).
  • An eyecatch was added when the scene changed from Nae's shop to Kam's home. A short scene showing Kam's home at night (from the next episode) was added afterwards.
  • Mentions to the term heart (used in several ways, including "heartwrenching") were replaced by the similar gut and gut-wrenching.
    • When Blakbeetle did not understand what Metabee meant, in the dub Metabee explains what the term gut-wrenching means, and Blakbeetle says she is not programmed with non-vital functions. In the original, Metabee says Blakbeetle would understand once she learned how fun Robattles can be, and Blakbeetle says that Robattles being fun is nonsense.
  • When Nae talks with Blakbeetle:
    • In the dub, Nae explains that Blakbeetle came to see them for a reason. While it could be that she wanted to complete the orders given by her master (with Blakbeetle saying Kam's name), the reason was a feeling that came from inside her gut, just like Metabee, feelings. Blakbeetle rejects that, saying that she is a Kilobot and has no feelings, only one objective: survival. Nae says that it must be difficult to accept, but she has emotions running through her circuits. While remembering the battle against her many copies, Blakbeetle says that they are trying to brainwash her and lying to her to turn her against her master, and Blakbeetle goes berserk.
    • In the original, Nae explains that Blakbeetle must be able to understand Metabee's feeling, as she also has a heart (with Blakbeetle repeating the word heart), and Nae asks Blakbeetle to think carefully about why Metabee gave away the part to Blakbeetle, and the meaning of Robattle. Blakbeetle says that the only meaning of a Robattle is to fight and win. Nae says that if she continues with Robattles like that, her heart will only get colder. While Blakbeetle remembers the battle against her many copies, she tells Nae that, for her, a Robattle is not a game, and losing means losing, and Blakbeetle goes berserk.
  • One of the scenes with Blakbeetle repeatedly punching Metabee was partially replaced by one of Blakbeetle's memories shown in the waste disposal, with Nae's lines continuing over the new scene.
  • In the original, Kam says that Blakbeetle's Neo Ex Medal may still have some usefulness. In the dub, Kam makes a pun, saying that Blakbeetle proved her Medal.
  • In the original, Blakbeetle asks why her heart hurts. In the dub, Blakbeetle asks what is the strange gut feeling she is having.
  • Like previous episodes with the same screen, the "to be continued" message in the end changed.
